Chapter 5
(Lily's POV)
Lily's breath caught as Ms. Mei instructed Dominic to sit behind her. Her heart raced with anxiety, her mind filled with worst-case scenarios.
What if he recognizes her? What if he demands protection money for his help in some twisted way?
She crossed her fingers, hoping he wouldn't remember her. Maybe he had already forgotten about the incident.
But as he approached her desk, she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. His presence was intimidating, like a dark cloud looming over her.
To her surprise, he passed by her silently and sat down without making a sound, like a sleek cat.
Lily sighed in relief, her tension easing slightly. She ignored Beth's curious glances, focusing on the lesson.
The class proceeded without incident, Ms. Mei teaching them about Victorian poets.
Lily tried to concentrate, taking careful notes, but she couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched.
It was as if someone was shooting laser beams at her back, making her skin prickle with unease.
****Ding Dong****
"Alright students, class dismiss. Don't forget to review your notes, I will ask few questions so that no one slack off in the class," Ms. Mei instructed them
"There will be a test on next week to make your progress report. Have a good day," she smiled encouragingly at them. She collects her things and head out for her next class.
Lily stood up, relieved. She turned to Beth, "Please tell me, Beth, did you manage to take some notes this time?"
Beth pouted, "Aww, Lil, you sound like my mom. Ms. Mei was speaking too fast for me to write anything down."
She smile cheekily, and requested, "Can I borrow your notes? I promise I'll try harder next time."
Lily chuckled, "Typical Beth. If you keep daydreaming in class, Ms. Mei will catch you someday. But yeah, we can meet at the library to review our notes tomorrow."
Beth nodded, grinning, "Thanks, Lil. You're a lifesaver!"
As they packed up their things, Beth's eyes flickered to Dominic, then quickly away.
Lily mentally groaned, realizing she had almost forgotten about the new student's intimidating aura.
Beth seemed hesitant to approach him, and the rest of the class kept their distance, too.
Lily was stuck with Mr. Devil as her desk mate, the only one brave (or foolish) enough to welcome him to their class.
Her day couldn't get any more complicated...
