The Patrol

"Lilly!" Where are you Luka called out as I hide behind a rock at the edge of my territory. No one knows I'm out here I'm only 5 months old and my mom is gonna have me start learning to hunt soon. She's the alpha of the Moon Pack and my brother Cosmo wants to take her place when she chooses a new alpha, my two other brothers Rex and Bog don't want to become alpha, after our father died in the battle between our pack and the Crimson Creek pack for territory 3 months ago we were only 2 months old when it happened and it scared my two brothers out of the idea.

 Roxy tried her best to save him since she is the best healer in the pack and the betta wolf Cole went off as a dispersal wolf from the heart ache of it all. 

"Lilly? I give up already come out!!" The voice breaks me from my thoughts, "alright fine." I say as I jump up onto the rock I was hiding behind and pose Luka let's out a quiet chuckle I watch the almost full black pup pacing back and forth on the other side of the territory line. 

You see my best friend Luka is part of the Fog Forest Pack while I'm part of the Moon pack "You wanna play tag?" he questioned me holding up his one white paw "you know I can't cross the line Luka the wolves on patrol will smell my sent." Is say weekly with a sad tone. 

"I should probably get going I'm gonna start hunting tomorrow maybe ill see you out by the lake?" I say half excited and half knowing I won't. The lake is the one area that no pack is allowed to claim, we all use it as a hunting ground for new hunter seeing how all the animals drink from it. 

The lake is also a peaceful zone between packs you are only allowed to attack another wolf if its self defense so me and Luka could play there when I have more freedom. I start walking back towards the pack and see a pups tail from behind a tree I walk past pretending not to see it.

However when I'm halfway past the tree "charge!" Someone yells and I feel the wait of two pups land on my back "pup down! pup down!" I call out and the two pups roll off my back in laughter they seem to only be 3 months old so I guess this is there first time away from their mother. "What are your names?" I sweetly ask while rolling onto my tummy. "My name is Bear!" One of them called "well that's going to get confusing" I mumble under my breath "how about you?" I ask the brown and gray spotted one "m-my n-n-name is Tw-twig" he just barely stutters out.

"Alright well be careful out here. You don't want the bark monster to get chya" I joke to them I hear them both gulp and I giggle "I'm just joking but stay near the dens alright?" They both give me a slow nod as I walk home. 

         Once I get home I hear my mom scolding Cosmo, again, Rex and Bog are quietly laughing in the back of the den "what did he do this time?" I ask Rex and Bog when I get in. "He, haha he went near the Canyon Pack's territory he was just a few steps from crossing the line when patrol found him." Bog said while laughing my ears shot down 'that could be me right there for hanging out with Luka' I thought to myself.

I forced my ears back up before anyone noticed, then went to get some food I get back from the small kill pile where the pups get their food and Cosmo is gone I drop two sparrows in front of Rex and Bog and one in front of myself and we start to nibble at them. 

"So, what's his punishment?" I question half excited to hear what he has to do. "He's on pup sitting duty." As soon as I heard it I burst out laughing "keep your mouth shut I'm trying to sleep" Cosmo said from a dark corner while me and Rex are closer to a red wolf Cosmo is black with small white speckle like stars, and bog has a brown coat with black splotches here and there Rex and Bog have one brown eye and one green eye. My eyes look like the galaxy and Cosmos eyes are grey and blue with a green hue. 

We all look different however we all have the same moon pack birth mark the children of the alpha get right on our necks we all have a moon pattern in our fur. I roll my eyes at Cosmo and continue to eat my sparrow taking my time. 

When we are all finished we go out to play, after a few minutes the sun is just beginning to set when we hear a howl from the day patrol "come on guys" I bark at my brothers as we run down to the center near the medic and kill piles. "Put me down!" I hear a familiar voice say "stop squirming or ill kill you right here and now!" A muffled voice says my mom hasn't arrived yet and there's a line of young 2 month pups watching the commotion so I take it upon myself to say "not with the young pups watching" I look up to the patrol then point to the pups with my muzzle not seeing who he is holding.

 "and who am I to listen to y-" he cuts himself off when he sees the moon pattern in my coat. "Now drop it!" I order only then realizing who he's holding 'Luka!' Silt the head of day patrol shakes his head in disbelief "but ma'am he was on our territory" Luka's eyes go wide as he sees me ordering a full grown wolf around.

 I usually cover my mark in mud so he doesn't know that I'm an alpha's pup. "I said drop him!" I say sternly that's when mother shows up "what's going on here?" My mother says in a loud voice "this pup from the Fog Forest Pack was in our territory." Silt responds immediately "And your daughter here wants me to put him down" he says pointing to me with his muzzle "then put him down!" My mother says and my eyes widen 'she is agreeing with me!' 

His ears go back "But Zuara, ma'am" he argues back my mothers teeth show and her ears go back aggressively "I said put him down NOW!" She yelled at him. Silt lowers his head and he drops Luka and his ears flatten when he lifts his head up. Luka scurries over to me in fear and he hides next to me with his eyes wide and ears down "we will take care of this from here" my mother says in a loud stern voice then she looks to me and the shaking pup next to me "Take him to the stream to get washed up then to our den, Lilly." She tells me I give her a quick nod and look to Luka "come with me." 

I say pretending not to know him. We walk a little ways in silence then he breaks it when we're out of earshot "soo~ your an aero pup?" I look down shyly "why didn't you tell me?" He asks annoyed "I um I didn't want to be treated differently" I look to him "thanks... for what you did back there I mean." I look to him in surprise "I gue-" I stop in my tracks and he stops next to me 'I could of sworn I just heard something.' 

I close my eyes and slow my breathing to enhance my hearing I jolt my head to the side and open my eyes "come out from behind that bush" I say to the wolf that's following us. "Oh your gonna get it!" Cosmo says when he jumps up Luka looks confused at what's happening "I'm gonna tell mom your friends with a wolf from another pack" he says and my ears flatten to my head. "Do-don't you dare" I reply he laughs "why not" he sarcastically says "cause ill tell mom that you've gone into the Canyon Pack's territory 3 time already and shell triple your punishment." I say as a comeback he growls "now go back home or ill dig up some more dirt on you" I snarl at him while digging at the ground with my paw. 

He rolls his eyes and snarls at me then runs away with his ears down and tail between his legs I chuckle and continue to walk. "Who was that Lilly?" Luka asks after a few steps "my annoying brother, can you believe he wants to become the next alpha" I say in a gossipy tone "oh." Is all he says in reply then I remember why Luka is here "what were you doing out of your territory!" I ask him with a worried voice "oh um ya about that, you dropped this he says and pulls a clip out from under his fur. 

"That's my moon clip, that dad gave me before the battle." he said that some human dropped it on the edge of the territory and he thought of me when he saw it. "Do you mind" I say and paw at the long fur the covers one of my eyes he slides the clip onto my fur and it holds my long fur back I smile and he grins we walk to the stream pretty far from the territory and the sun has gone down 

"ahh its cold" Luka cries out "you need to be washed off you baby" I tease as I jump in I tread water for a little and the streams current is strong enough that a pup 3 months or younger would be washed away to the falls. *Splash* "ahhhh help me, Bear!!" 'Oh no twig is in trouble' before I can react Luka shoots out of the water and runs downstream towards twig I climb my way out of the water and follow *splash* Luka jumps in and grabs the pup by the scruff of his neck.

This is my first book that I'm not basing the story off of anything I have seen.
