[ November 2nd, 2019 ]"Are you sure I'm not imposing?" Y/n asked once again from their side of the table. Wilbur, who was sat across from them, audibly groaned and rolled his eyes.
"I'm absolutely positive! You know Phil! You're his friend too, I promise they want to meet you as well!"
Y/n bit their tongue in thought, trying to accept Will's words. He was right of course. They'd spoken to Phil a few times online, but not often. They'd spoken to his wife Kristen even less, although both of them seemed like nice enough people.
"And it's just Phil and Kristen? No other surprise friends I should be worried about?" They asked tentatively, trying to sort out the situation in their head.
"Y/n, you're the surprise friend." Will teased, chuckling at the way their eyebrows shot up at his accusation.
"See! This is why I'm nervous that I'll be intruding! Will, I don't know!"
Wilbur laughed again and reached across the table, flicking the back of Y/n's hand, which had been nervously playing with their fork. "I'm only joking, I already told them you'd be coming too. They're excited! They like you, okay?"
Y/n sighed and puffed out their cheeks. Keeping eye-contact with their much taller friend, who was currently wiggling his eyebrows in attempt to bring them back down to earth.
"Okay."
Wilbur smiled approvingly, giving an affirmative pat to Y/n's hand and returning his own back to his lap. He was about to say something else when Y/n saw his eyes flick to the door. Wilbur smiled even further, shifting in his chair before finishing his thought. "Speak of the devil..."
Y/n turned around in their chair, eyes landing on two figures who'd just entered the diner. Phil and Kristen were bundled up for late autumn, Phil's rosy nose signifying the chilly temperature outside.
Wilbur stood up from his chair, greeting the both of them with hugs. Y/n followed suit, pleasantly surprised by how happy they seemed to be to embrace them. They mentally scolded themself for being so worried, they always seemed to overthink these sort of things.
"It's nice to see you both! How've you been!" Kristen was the first to speak up, sitting down across from her fiancé, who'd found a seat next to Will. Y/n settled back into their chair, picking their fork back up to fidget with it.
