Part 2: "A Night Alone" (29)

The first cannon in the games fired signalling Jennica’s death. All 29 remaining tributes were shocked at Jennica’s defeat thinking that it was a prime rule to stay at the plate and thought that everyone knew it. Except Jessica smiling with achievement and knew the first death in the games belonged to her. The gun fire shot and everybody scattered in different directions going for the supplies almost all of the tributes go for the Cornucopia where the supplies are the richest. Lorenzo and Jenny from District 12 went for the woods following their mentors’ advice, the former victors Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. The District 15 tributes Chat and Jessica went for the woods also, probably to create a hideout and set traps because this was their forte.

District 12 found 3 backpacks containing so many supplies, but as Lorenzo was struggling to run while carrying 2 packs, he quickly lost one to the cunning girl from District 2, Moreen. As they were 15 miles from the starting plates the second cannon in the games fired, followed quickly by the third, then the fourth. Signalling 3 Tributes have died. This means the bloodbath in the Cornucopia has started. Angeline, the knife throwing girl has killed all three tributes, the girl from District 8, Erika, Angelo from District 10 and Randell from District 1 and then she dashed off in the woods with 5 knives left and a supply of groosling and water. The career tribute from District 3 May used a bow and arrow to surprise kill a formidable opponent in the games, John Ray from District 9 fearing that John Ray would be her biggest threat. A cannon fires. When May was in the woods looking for supplies and a place to hide, Angeline, who heard May’s boastfulness in the pre-games sends a knife through her back then another cannon fires and the tributes were reduced to 24. Angeline was such on a roll that she immediately received a gift from her sponsors, a body armor that protects her from her neck to her heels. As all the tributes distance away from Angeline they gather essential supplies, sort them, and prepared themselves for the long run in the games.

The sun was going down as Jenelle and Audrey from District 13 were out in the woods looking for a suitable place to hide while gathering green wood for their flint that they found to make a fire. As they finally found a small cave, they covered it with leaves and stones and put their stuff inside, and then they went outside then Jenelle started a fire and Audrey scouted for roots to boil and eat. With Jenelle keeping the fire going for at least 10 minutes already, she heard a rustle in the bushes behind her; she taught it was Audrey since it was the direction she came from. She was shocked as a spear pierced her back and heard a lot of people making sounds of pain as they see her brutal but quick death. She realized that these were the Careers and it was her end. She fell to the ground, disappeared, and a cannon fired.

Audrey heard the cannon and realized her partner’s vulnerability and ran back to their base with hands full of root crops but coming back for the worst thing she feared, she was alone. Hoping that Jenelle went somewhere to do something Audrey waited anxiously as the anthem of Panem plays above and the images of the fallen Tributes flash in the sky one by one hoping that Jenelle’s face won’t show. Randell, May, Erika, John Ray, Angelo, then Jenelle. Audrey’s eyes welled up as tears fell from her cheeks realizing she will sleep alone tonight and continue the games without a partner. She knelt beside the fire hopeless, and thinking what she would do next. As the tributes experienced a chilling night. Day 2’s weather was surprisingly calm and beautiful. A perfect day for killing.
