—— CHAPTER TWO / a rainy day
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
THE RAIN POURED LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMORROW. It was rather inconvenient at the time as she returned from school after a long, tiring day.
Seriously?! Rain in the summer? Looks like the gods do hate me.
You wouldn't have gotten drenched if you had remembered to bring your umbrella with you, Park Aella.
Shut it.
She growled under her breath and sped up, desperately wanting to get home, have a bath and then go to the bar. Hopefully, the rain would have stopped by then. Her clothes were heavy with water, her school shirt sticking to her body. Her fingers were numb, shaking uncontrollably. Her hair hugged her nape and the sides of her face, irritating her to no end. The water hit her ears, creating annoying sounds. Her schoolbag barely sheltered her from the rain as she held it above her head—
The rain stopped.
She looked up and saw nothing but water falling everywhere but it didn't seem to hit her anymore. Confused, she looked up, expecting to see the grey sky but instead saw the insides of a blue umbrella. Furrowing her eyebrows, she looked at that one person who was holding the umbrella for her and getting wet themself.
He flashed her his million dollar smile as water now dripped down his face. "You were getting wet so I thought I'd share my umbrella with you!" Aella waved her hand in a dismissive gesture, "No, it's okay. You can keep it." She pushed his hand that was holding the umbrella towards him even though she really needed an umbrella.
(The girl was as stubborn as a rock)
"No, my house is just around the corner. You take it."
"No, you take it."
"No, you."
"I insist, Jin Mori, you take it."
"But you're more wet than me!"
"No, I'm not!"
What a terrible lie—
"You need it more than me, Aella."
"I certainly do not, Jin."
And after more than just mere fifteen minutes of arguing on who would take the umbrella home, they came to the unanimous decision of simply sharing it. "I'll drop you home, and then be on my way." he told her as he shuffled closer to her under the umbrella, much to her dismay. As much as she hated to admit it, she really liked Mori; he was a good guy. But his alter ego from a thousand years ago was not. Mori by far, hadn't gotten on her nerves by being too much like the Monkey King, so she acknowledged him as a good person.
She just didn't want to get close to him and then have him hate her when his memories returned. She shivered at the thought, and maybe even from the cold. She sucked her teeth in and bit down, trying her best not to make her teeth chatter. She rubbed her arms, trying her best to generate heat. "Here."
She felt something heavy draped onto her shoulders. With questioning eyes, she looked up at Mori and shrugged off the jacket. "I don't need it."
"Keep it," he insisted with a small frown.
"I don't need it."
"Take it, you're cold."
"I told you, Jin, I don't need it." He shut up at her stubborness. "Why're you even helping me anyways?" she mumbled. And at that moment, he remembered something his grandpa taught him. With a smile, he said, "Because my grandpa taught me to never leave a girl alone and in need of something."
Aella snorted and said nothing else, signalling the end of their conversation.
Aella sneezed into her palm before pointing at a house sitting among a chain of others. "This is my stop."
Mori gripped the handle of the umbrella and yelled into the rain as she made her way to her home, "You can call me Mori! Not Jin!" She spun around, and cupped her hands around her mouth, "You can call me Park, then!"
It was almost funny, how one was trying to make a friend while the other was just trying to push him away.
