Harry leaned back, eyes closed as he basked in the warmth of the hot sun. His hand playing softly with the flowers that surrounded him. He was sat in a field of Dahlias, different colours and variations of the flower forming a perimeter around him, reminding of what it is to be happy, to be at peace. A small laugh escaped his lips, one that came out without him meaning to. He could only feel a type of happiness that was hard to explain, he knew where he was and what happened to him but he felt oddly at peace, like this was where he was meant to be.
"You waited for me." A gentle voice spoke behind him, Harry turned around, a large smile on his face, already knowing who it was. Dahlia stood behind him, a large grin on her face that matched his own. She was dressed in a white silk dress and the black combat boots that she always wore, except these ones weren't scuffed and dirty, they were the new ones Harry had meant to buy her. She also wasn't wearing the black backpack anymore, the one that contained all her medicine, allowing her to move freely and adding a certain agility to her figure that Harry hadn't noticed before. She smoothed out the back of her dress before sitting down next to Harry, head on his shoulder as she picked up one of the many Dahlia flowers that surrounded them.
"Of course I did. I'll always wait for you." Harry whispered, eyes closed as he enjoyed the feeling of knowing she was close and that they'd never be apart.
"It wasn't supposed to be like this though, I was supposed to wait for you." Dahlia sighed but she couldn't find it within herself to be upset, she no longer even knew what sadness was like. She was now in a place where such things didn't exist, where the pain and sorrow of living was but a memory of a past life. "Did it hurt for you?" Dahlia questioned gently as she pulled Harry back, the two of them now laying on their backs, the stems of the flowers tickling their skin but they didn't care. There was no longer anything to care about except for each other, there was no pain, no heart break, just tranquility.
"It hurt a bit at first, I wanted to get to you so bad, I tried so hard but I didn't make it. Then it disappeared and there was no pain, only a calmness, like I knew what had happened and there was nothing I could do about it. I knew you would come so I waited for you." Harry replied softly, turning his head to stare intently into Dahlia's dark brown eyes, the eyes had found himself lost in countless times.
"It didn't hurt for me, not at all because I knew you would be waiting for me. I don't know why, I just knew." Dahlia snuggled closer into Harry, allowing him to wrap a loving arm around her.
"Do you think they'll miss us?" Dahlia nodded, fiddling with the buttons of Harry's loose and thin white shirt.
"I think they will, but with time they'll get over the pain of losing us and it'll get replaced with the comfort of knowing that we're together and watching over them. And, that we'll be here waiting for them."
They sat there, Dahlia's head on Harry shoulder as they simply enjoyed the company of each other's presence in silence until eventually the time came.
"Are you ready?" Harry asked, as he got up and helped Dahlia do the same.
"Yes." She replied simply. They walked away from the field of Dahlias and through the empty town of Cramend, smiling fondly as the reminisced on the life they once lived, a life though short, but was filled with enough passion, care and love to have lived many lifetimes. They stopped at the ice cream shop, sitting on the pavement where they had shared their first kiss.
"I love you." Harry confessed for the last time, looking down at the girl he was blessed to have known, that he was blessed to have called his own.
"I love you more." Dahlia replied, looking up at the boy who filled her last days with more life than she had experienced throughout her life time.
They didn't know where they were going but all they knew was that they were together and could never be apart again and that on its own, was heaven.
"Thank you fo-" Dahlia began but was never able to finish, because the both of them faded away, leaving behind nothing, nothing but serenity, both arriving at their own personal nirvana. The only thing left of them being the memory of two souls, a quiet, lonesome boy and a loud, outgoing girl, who loved passionately but had the misfortune of simply not having enough time.
A/N: Well, that was, wow. I'm completely broken and need some time recover after writing that. Damn, I got so attached to Harry and Dahlia that writing their deaths was just to painful. This wasn't how I originally planned on ending their story so for those of you who want a slightly happier ending, I have two chapters that I originally planned as using for an ending, if you want to read those I can publish them in a separate book as an alternative ending on my story if you want to check that out. Let me know in the comments. Well, that's it then, the end of Thank You For Today, I'll be honest this is my absolute favourite story and I hope you loved reading it as much as I loved writing it. Leave any questions about other other characters and how you think they reacted to their deaths in the comments, I'll be replying to them all, no matter how late you'll get a response.
If you want more Harry fics, check out my AU Vivacious, its very different to this story, a lot more dark but I'm sure some of you will love it nonetheless. Feel free to check out my other stories on my profile and for the rest, thank you for reading this book and showing it all this love, I'm so grateful and thank you for all the votes as well, it means the world to me. Remember to leave any comments with questions and I'll seen you in my next book! Love,
