As I walked out of the door Chris, my brother, asked me where I was going. "I'm meeting with Kitty at the café." I replied, not bothering to stop in my tracks. I faintly heard him saying something about being home before dark. I shrugged it off and took the elevator down from my apartment on the fifth floor. Hurrying over to the café not wanting to be late, I saw Kitty standing in the front, waiting for me. She looked at me knowingly and chuckled. I sheepishly apologized and began to rant in the hope of an eventual excuse. She simply laughed and waved it off.
"Are you ready to order?" the waiter politely asked. We had just sat down until the eager waiter came over. "I'll have a piece of your famous pie and", Kitty hesitated," a coffee with sugar and creamer." The waiter nodded and scribbled down on their notepad hastily. Then they both turned to me. "I would like a croissant and a black coffee." I stated politely and gave the waiter a mutual nod. Quick and to the point. I wonder if that is how I'm destined to interact with strangers.
The waiter left and I was left lost in thought, but Kitty quickly pulled me out of that by asking: So, Beatrice, how's life in Gotham treating you? Have you had the chance to go sightseeing yet?" "No, not at all actually. I've been really busy with unpacking." I confessed honestly "Are you exited for school?" She smirked since she just finished high school. I met Kitty when she protected me from bullies. I was nine, which would make her to be about twelve or thirteen years old. Five years, still going strong. "No not really" I said with a jokingly voice, trying to cover up the fact that I am terrified of meeting all those new people. "Look, kid, I'm sure you'll find someone who you can agree with on certain topics. Just hang out with them and you will be fine. This is not some cheesy movie where everyone is divided into cliques. People are just trying to survive high school and the unnecessary amount of homework that comes along with it." Kitty advised. Afterwards I, once again, got lost in thought and zoomed out to process what she just told me. I forced myself out of my trance-like state and asked her: "what about you?" She started talking about everything you could think of. It would be amusing to watch but slipped back into myself and started imagining my new friends and I could feel my hopes getting up. I was quick to get my expectations back to where they were before. You can't afford that. Ever.
Our food arrived, and we enjoyed our treats in peace. I suddenly remembered the uniforms. As if Kitty could read my mind, she said: "Good thing you don't have to worry about what to wear. But the uniforms aren't exactly the best either. Or so I've heard." "Yeah, I have to wear a skirt. A skirt! Talk about adding stress in high school. The stockings, and the little-miss-perfect jacket." I complained. Kitty only chuckled and teased: "I don't know. I think the posh look would suit you quite well." I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "Never in a million years Kitty. I will never be a stuck-up brat raised by Americas narcissistic capitalist ideals." Kitty only laughed.
Not too long after that, Kitty bid farewell and I left a couple minutes after her. It was getting dark and I strolled back to my apartment, despite being in Gotham at night.
When I came back, Chris was waiting with a judging look on his face. I shrugged and walked to my room, not caring about what he had to say. He was too protective of me. Chris met me when my mom and I got into a fight. Since then I've considered him my brother and I have considered myself his sister. When Chris told me he was moving to Gotham, I moved with him. I was severely bullied at school and "the incident" had just occurred, and my mom let me move with him. I don't miss Central City, though I do miss Star Labs.
I heard Chris mumble something while walking back to his room. I flopped on to my bed, ready to be consumed by the soft blankets and silk sheets. I decided to take a shower, despite wanting to sleep right away.
After taking a long shower, I brushed my teeth and washed my face, not bothering to brush trough my blonde hair. My hair is down to my collarbone and is kind of wavy. Then I crawled under my sheets and went to bed.
