I ran out of the house and into a corner of the garden where I used to play with father as a child.
There, I collapsed onto a stone bench under Father's weeping willow to cry.
"There's nothing left to believe in," I sobbed.
All the magic, all the happily ever after, GONE.
The animals gathered around to comfort me, but I couldn't stop crying.
Suddenly, tiny flickers of light gathered about me like fireflies. When I looked up, they had come together to form the bright shape of a woman with a very kind face!
She took me in her arms and introduced herself. She was my Fairy Godmother!
"Come now," she said softly
"Dry your tears, you can't go to the ball looking like that!"
With a wave of her wand, she transformed a pumpkin from the garden into a coach! and the animals changed into attendants and magnificent horses!
Then she looked at my attire.
"How gorgeous you will look in a new suit!" she beamed.
With one cast of spell, magic sparkles from her wand like fireworks.
Turning my rags into a brilliant white suit with a glass ring that glittered like stars! It had my initial J on it too!
I felt like a Prince!
Before I left, Fairy godmother warned me that the magic would not last forever. I had to return home by the last stroke of midnight- before everything changed back into its original form.
"Yes, fairy godmother. I will always believe in you" I understood and nodded my head.
So I took a deep breath and nervous as I stepped into the pumpkin coach. I thanked Fairy Godmother and the charming horses galloped quickly to the palace.
