First, do no harm. Every weapon in the physician's armamentarium is double edge, every cure has a potential hear. Non-maleficence, which is derived from the maxim, is one of the principal precepts of that all students in healthcare are taught in school and is a fundamental principle throughout the world. Another way to state it is that, "given an existing problem, it may be better not to do something, or even to do nothing, than to risk causing more harm than good."
In the field of medicine, you have to take an ought. Prioritizing the safety of your patients and promoting survival. That's why you cannot treat them without diagnosing, you cannot diagnose them when you haven't evaluated the root of the complication.
Mahirap ang magbasa at mag-aral pero the fruit of harkwork will always be sweet regardless of the bitter journey you've been into.
"Yaya what suits me best? This white off shoulder dress? Or just a t-shirt and a pair of high waist jeans?"
Halos magpa-ikot ikot na ako sa loob ng aking kwarto para lang makahanap ng magandang maisusuot. Mom will introduce me to the board. Noong una, kinabahan ako pero I just think of all the books I've read. Probably I won't feel like an outcast somehow.
I hurried and slammed the door and I slumped at the front seat habang yakap yakap ang librong "The Molecule of More" ni Daniel Z. Lieberman.
The hospital will be 30 minutes away from our mansion. Instead of wasting my time watching the places we passed by, mas magandang ipagpatuloy ko nalang ang pagbabasa. Besides, mom might throw questions during the ride, so I decided to bring my airpods so I won't get interrupted.
According to Lieberman, Dopamine is a molecule for the UP. Meaning, it functions beyond the reach of our hand. When we look up, we dream, love and passion drives us towards the things we desire, including the desire to dominate the world.
It's fascinating that the we don't control our mind and that our mind controls everything that we do. If that's the case, then why do we have to listen on what other will say about us? Why would we try to do something just to be someone they wanted us to become?
"Everyone, this is my daughter Miuccia Omella Montanari,"
My mom proudly presented me in front of the board. Everyone was clapping their hands and nodding their head to each other as if they were pleased to see me.
I thought I would also say something just like what my mom did during the meeting. With a laser in her hand with summaries of shares and upcoming projects popping from a projector nearby.
I thought I would give a talk and showcase my knowledge, but I didn't. Instead, she made me seat near a man with a lab coat. Base on my observation, he is on his 19 or 18. He looked young, bored and handsome.
I pinched myself when he turned to me as if he felt like someone has been staring at him for a long time. That was the first time I saw someone with gray eyes. Like a little bit of gray and a mix of black and blue. His nose is proud at he rarely speaks. He had never spoken throughout the meeting, but he has a laptop in him.
I stared at his laptop that was already at the home tab. A fair girl with curly hair and a wide smile was in his wallpaper. Maybe that's his wife, but he's too young to get married. I bet he's still in his residency? That girl might be her girlfriend.
I was surprised when I did something stupid.
"Uh, hi?"
I awkwardly smiled and lowered my voice to avoid any interruptions with the meeting.
He turned his head and this time he was holding a pen while his tongue is licking his lower lip. He raised his eyebrows as if a child asked him for a candy.
I pointed at the laptop with an awkward smile in my face.
"Is she your girlfriend?"
Her face darkened and his eyebrows scowled. I should've never asked him.
He clicked his tongue and turned his head to the front.
I was left their dumbfounded. I never felt so humiliated throughout my life.
The whole meeting was tense because everyone was debating about something. The guy beside me didn't speak yet but he passed something in front of the board and that stopped the commotion.
Everyone was praising me when the stood up telling me about how adorable I am. Seriously?
"You look fabulous darling! What do you want to be? A beauty queen perhaps?"
An old lady with a black skirt and white top asked me. I just smiled at her and avoided her gaze.
They're all talking about me being feminine! Was it hard for them to ask me what's the largest organ or how can we fix a bombarded artery in the heart?
The guy with the lab coat was the last one who left the room. My mom smiled at him and they talked privately.
Before he left, he passed at the door where I was standing and uttered the words that would change my life forever.
"Mind your own business, kid."
Nakatulala kong pinagmasdan ang papalayo niyang bulto. I felt a pat on my shoulder and it was mom. A sob escape from my mouth with the tears streaming down my face.
"You know honey, we stated an ought. First, do no harm. Asking question isn't bad, but when it comes to personal life, we cannot involve curiosity about love. Dry your eyes honey, faint hearts never win."
