The hippocampus, located in the brain's temporal lobe, is where episodic memories are formed and indexed for later access. Episodic memories are autobiographical memories from specific events in our lives, like the coffee we had with a friend last week.
Learning takes time, and that I learned things around me in a hard way. If it means a lot to you, then might as well it stays inside your brain forever until altered by an external force from an accident.
I entered high school and my life was as normal as kids my age. But deep inside me, I know I should always mind my business. I was praised with my photographic memory, when in fact I didn't have any. It was just because my mom made me read at a young age.
After obtaining an undergraduate degree, I topped the MCAT and was able to study in the most prestigious medical school in England.
My mom didn't kept in touch with me throughout my journey. It was a bit odd standing in front of the stage, topping the class and only have my friends and teachers to support me.
"Merry Christmas mom," I cheerfully greeted her despite the fact that I don't converse with her that way.
"Merry Christmas hija, how's your studies?"
Seriously? Holidays are meant for bonding and not about studies. After that conversation, I've never spoken to her again.
After obtaining a medical degree I completed my internship on a neurosurgical residency program.
"Congratulations Miuccia!"
"I'm so proud of you! Ibang iba kana."
"Not really, I was kinda stressed throughout this journey."
I let out a small laugh na mas nagpa ingay sa aking mga nagging barkada. I never had anyone as close as my high school friends.
"Sorry guys, I have to go na din. My flight will be at 10:30"
There isn't much time for partying and all. I have my duties and responsibilities. Social life should be set aside. Now I can finally wear that M.D. patch and start my own journey.
My suitcase is already with him. I packed thenm last night at napagpasiyahang hindi na ako babalik sa condo para kumuha pa ng mga gamit. Besides, my belongings are in the Philippines.
"Welcome aboard ma'am, enjoy our flight!"
This is going to be easy. I hope this is going to be as easy as I've always imagine.
3 years later
Another milestone na naman to but I'm used to this.
''Please transfer him to a room, nurse Macalintal." I gracefully walked and gave orders to the head nurse while removing my scrubs.
The water from the faucet was warm, but my hands remained cold and still feeling the sensation of flesh. The operation took seven hours and my eyes felt sandy. I have to get some rest before the big event.
"The symposium will start at exactly 6 in the evening. The coordinator already sent you a gown for the night Doc."
"Alright." I clicked the pen at pinirmahan ang invitation before handing it out to Camila, my secretary.
Usual life of a surgeon. Maybe because she's going to marry someone again.
I'm not against that marriage, not until I found out that she'll be marrying a man at my age!
The dress they sent me was bright red with sequence. My slit ito mula sa baba patungo sa aking hita, exposing the upper part of my lower hip. It's a bit revealing, pero okay na.
A limousine took me to the party and the driver was cheerful.
"Doctor Montanari nice to see you again!"
Most of them were my mom's colleagues at nakikita ko pa dati sa mga board meetings. To sum everything up, I'm the only one here at my early 20s. I felt proud and superior, despite the fact that mga betirano na ang mga kasama ko ngayon.
The event started with a speech, at isa din ako sa nagbigay ng talumpati para sa opening.
"So what do you think about the new project launched Doctora? Are you against it or isa ka din sa mga bumuo nito?"
Walang pakundangan ang tanong ng medya. I don't know why they allowed them here. The project was a hospital on a remote place. I was the head of that project. I don't know why it became controversial, but they're against it because it's costly.
"I heard about the rumors. That project was headed my yours truly and I see nothing wrong with it. If money is an issue? I'll handle it."
"Doctora we heard that Allegros' sole heir will also attend this symposium. Have you meet him during your internship in England?"
I don't who that heir is, matunog ang mga Allegros ngayon sa industriya ng medisina. One thing for sure, I would be the best of the best. If their heir is here, then he or she should better kept their way out from me.
"If you don't mind, please excuse me. I just have to use the powder room."
There! That's the best way to get rid of nosy people around you. I washed my hands at nag apply ng lipstick. I don't know why I felt weird and nervous.
Is it because of the Allegros? No! This might be something else.
With my purse I gracefully stalked out from the powder room not until someone pulled me out from nowhere.
His large hand covered my lips and my heart beat eratically.
"Nice to see you again, doc."
"Allegro?"
