Winter's POV

Despite the heat from the surrounding flames, my paws froze under the frosted earth.
The ice melted underneath my weight as I stared, my gaze losing sight of the children, too shocked at what was happening around me. When I first arrived at Zayn's pack, I was too delusional and weak to notice the surroundings, but now, even as the air was so dense with smoke it fogged my vision, I was mesmerised by its elegance.

The block of cells I was kept in was disguised as a large shed and from the look of it, was kept half a kilometre from the mansion. The gigantic house itself had managed to avert the flames, but everything around it crackled louder than thunder.

Surrounding the house was the dense bushland that I had no doubt was white this morning from last night's snow. Flames as tall as trucks now ravaged through the trees and bushland like the wolves that stormed through Zayn's pack.

Around me wolves charged at each other, killing each other without a second thought, fighting for their lives.

My heart seized as I scanned through the crowds of fighting wolves and found the children who were almost invisible under the smoke and flames.

I burst back into a sprint.

My shoulder had just begun to pound when I caught sight of a filthy blonde wolf in the corner of my eye charging towards me. I turned just as its blood soaked paws flew towards my side. I managed to pivot my body just in time for his claws to only snag the tips of my fur.

As we faced each other head on, I was able to size it up. The wolf barely reached my chin even with its raised fur making it look bigger than it was.

I didn't bother to circle it.

I sunk my claws into the earth and lowered my stance so I was now smaller than it. Before the wolf could even blink, I pounced directly towards its chest and ripped my teeth into it neck and didn't let go until I felt bones crunch.

For a moment my vision was stained red. All I could feel was the warm blood in my mouth and the disgustingly delightful feeling of the bones crushing under my grip and the limp weight in my mouth.

It's too easy.

Unable to contain myself, I yanked the carcass to the side and wrestled with in as if it were a toy. I felt a twisted sense of delight I hadn't allowed myself to feel in years and the adrenaline burst through any compassion I had remaining for the wolf.

Enough.

I dropped the wolf's neck and looked back towards where I last saw the siblings. Blood dripped from my mouth and stained the white snow beneath me as I desperately flicked my gaze over the property.

A roar escaped my throat as I saw a group of wolves surrounding the children.
This time as I ran, the pounding in my shoulder turned into nothing more than the pump of adrenaline through my veins. Any sense of sadistic delight I once felt, stripped from my conscious as the wolves closed in on the siblings who clasped each other's hands.

I didn't think twice before lunging towards the middle wolf whose ash covered back faced me. It howled in pain as my claws sunk into its flesh and sliced through bone. I didn't bother to finish it off before averting my gaze to the next target, a smaller wolf whose black fur had turned grey from the smoke.

I didn't give it the chance to run. I leapt off my hind legs and landed on top of it, crushing its spine underneath my weight. A small whimper left its mouth as I moved on to the next.
I killed with ease. Merciless, thoughtless kills that I would never care to give another thought.
