The mission to stop Rumlow had been both a success and a failure. Wanda was beating herself up about what had happened, but so was Steve. The meeting was getting underway discussing as to whether or not they should sign the accords. Gem had refused to attend the meeting itself. She came in to hear Steve and Tony shouting, and Nat was trying to calm them down.

"And here she is." His tone was sharp and held none of its playful sarcasm.

"Yes Tony, I am here." Gem was immediately on the defence.

Steve looked at her sadly, clearly, she was missing something.

"So, you think it safe for her to walk around unchecked. She is Loki's daughter, for god's sake."

Gem stared at Tony; Steve looked like he was going to punch him.

"Yes, I am and till this moment, that hasn't been a problem for you." She knew sooner or later this would happen and had thought she was ready for it, but actually hearing those words come from Tony's mouth hurt more than she had expected.

"It's always been a problem, but we let it slide, because your fucking him." Tony pointed at Steve. "So, we go along with it, but do you think it does not cross our minds."

"Tony that's enough." Steve growled pushing away his chair.

"No Steve let him speak. Come on Stark let it out. Say what's on your mind and be done with it." Her voice was calm, but fury was building inside her.

"These accords are to make sure people like her, and Wanda cannot hurt innocent people. We have to sign." He pointed to the middle of the table as he rounded it.

Gem looks at the document on the table. "I will sign nothing; this isn't even my home planet."

"Then leave!!!!" Scream Tony not two feet from her, but she did not flinch.

Steve stepped towards him. "Do not shout at her."

Gem put her hand on Steve's arm. "You know why I won't leave. But no one can make me sign those papers." Gem turned away and left.

Steve found her outside, throwing her dagger at a tree. "You and Wanda are to stay here with Vision, while the accords meeting happens."

"Where are you going?" She asked not looking at him just simply continuing to throw her knife at the battered tree.

"I'm going over there with Sam. We'll be fine." Steve's phone beeped. He read the message. "I have to go."

"Is everything ok?" She asked. Gem had turned to yell at him for his indifference but stopped when she saw the pale shocked look his face held.

"Peggy has died." He whispered before swiftly walking away.

Gem watched him leave, she threw her dagger again and for the first time in her life, it missed its target.

..............

When she arrived at their room, Steve and few of his things had gone. After everything that had happened in the last few hours all Gem wanted to do was run and hide on Asgard. The accords made her feel like a criminal and Steve had gone without a goodbye to his first love's funeral. She hated herself for hating Peggy, but she couldn't help it.

Nat found her; she was kicking the shit out of a punching bag. "Never seen you pissed off."

"Is that what I'm feeling?" Gem said gripping the bag to stop it swinging back at her now she had stopped.

"I would think so. I mean, Steve just left,"

"I get it, she was his first love. He wants to say goodbye." Gem sighed walking over to where Nat stood and picked up her water bottle.

"Still hurts though." Nat replied with a sad smile.

Gem looked at the floor, Steve leaving to say goodbye to Peggy, wasn't the problem. it was that it had finally dawned on her what her father had meant. One day she would be the one having to say goodbye to Steve. "Nat do me a favour, go be there for him. Me and Wanda are confined to barracks."

"I could sneak you out."

"I don't think it's right for me to be there. You go. I'll be waiting here when you all get back." Nat leaves and Gem sits on the bed.

................

Gem watched the explosion on TV. They were blaming Bucky; she now knew Steve wouldn't be coming home. She had begun to pack a bag with the few things she had, when vision came in.

"You cannot leave." In his calm and factual way from the door.

"I allowed them to think that they can hold me here. But they can't." Gem continued to pack.

"Mr Stark, gave me instructions to keep both you and Wanda here."

"I'm going. This is going to get out of hand. If there is even the smallest chance that I might be able to stop it then I will."

"Maybe you will make it worse." Vision contradicted. Hoping to make her think her actions though. He did not want to force her to stay but he had orders from Mr Stark, and he would follow them.

"That's a risk I'm willing to take." She said as she slung the bag over her shoulder and turned to him. Watching as Vision stepped in front of her Gem waved her hand and she was gone.
