Scared To Love You

Warnings: angst (because I only ever write angst 😔✌🏽), drunk Severus, some yelling, arguing, crying

(In regards to this chapter, it's very AU, so just keep that in mind. Also some of it might not make sense yet, but it will in part 2)

"Severus where have you been? It's nearly 10:30, you were supposed to be home hours ago" Y/N tried to keep her voice levelled as her boyfriend walked through the door. "I had some work to do." He didn't even look at her. He just hung up his cloak and made his way to their shared room.

It had been going on like this for about a week. No kisses, no hugs, no cuddles, they both barely even spoke within the last couple of days. Y/N was beginning to get worried.

"Severus" She said as calmly as she could, walking into the room. He was already in bed, eyes closed, shoes still on, lying on his back, with his arm over his eyes, but she knew he wasn't asleep. "Severus?" She called his name again, but got no reply. "What's going on with you?"

This seemed to get his attention.

"What do you mean?" His eyes were opened now. "You've barely spoken to me in the last couple of days... is something wrong?"  He sat up straight and began removing his shoes "I have no idea what you're talking about, now if you'll leave me alone, I'll be in the bathroom."

He made his way to the bathroom, but Y/N wasn't going to let him go, this had gone on long enough. "Severus wait, we need to talk" She held his arm gently. He turned around and glared at her with a look he had never given her before.

"There's nothing to talk about Y/N." He said each word slowly as he pried her hand from his arm.

"Have I done something to you? Why are you pushing me away Severus?" Her voice had risen now, her desperate attempt to stay calm had failed. "Goddamnit Y/N could you just leave me alone?!" He spat at her. "No Severus! I can't just leave you alone! You've been ignoring me for weeks, and I'd like to know why!" "Please, please, just leave me alone! You're always nagging me! And annoying me! Could you please for the sake of my sanity SHUT UP!"

Y/N was quiet. Severus had never shown this much hostility towards her in my entirety of knowing him. She didn't know how to react.

He looked away and pinched the bridge of his nose, and mumbled under his breath. "I wish Lily were here."

No. No. No no no no no no

She stared at him in disbelief. He brought up the one thing that he knew she had always been insecure about. The one person who he had always put before her. The same person who he constantly said was in his past.

"H-how could you?"

He turned to look at her. Her eyes full of unshed tears.

He looked away and grabbed a towel.

"I'm going to take a shower"

He then made his way to their bathroom, as if he didn't just completely shatter the heart of the person who loved him the most.

Severus let his head drop as the hot water cascaded down him. He wanted- no, needed, to push her away. After what he found out, about a week ago, he was scared... Still he had regretted what he said the second it came out of his mouth. What he regretted more was not being able to apologise after he had said it.

He got out of the shower and wrapped the towel around his waist before he made his way to the room.

When he got there he saw the person who cared about him the most, with silent tears streaming down her face as she hastily chucked clothes into a duffel bag.
