The Yule Ball Part 2

~the day of the Yule hall~

Y/N's POV:

It was finally the day! I was so excited! I woke up early, partly because I wanted to begin preparing for the Yule Ball early, but mostly because I could barely get any sleep due to my nerves.

Classes for the day were cancelled to give us more time to get ready. Thank Merlin for that. I made my way to the great hall to get breakfast. I was earlier than most students. I looked around but there was no sign of Severus. He was probably still sleeping.

Severus' POV:

It was 12:37am when I had awoken. It was late, even for me, but I had spent all of last night prepping for the Yule Ball. My suit was laid out with the rest of my belongings. I caught a glimpse of it and felt sick with guilt. I was using her, I knew Y/N had feelings for me and I had just been playing with her heart the entire time. I couldn't deny that in the last couple of weeks I had started to care about her a lot more than I originally had, which made what I was doing all the more difficult.

I looked over at the small box on my nightstand. Inside it contained a silver bracelet with a green emerald in the centre. I had originally gotten it for Lily from hogmeade months ago. I planned on giving it to Y/N in front of Lily purely to make her jealous. Now, I just wanted to give it to Y/N to see the smile on her face...

~time skip~

Y/N's POV:

I stared at my reflection in the mirror and smoothed out my dress. My Y/H/C hair was let down in little ringlets, I had silver heels on and I had asked my good friend Marlene to apply my make up. At first I thought it all came together well, but as the time to go the Yule Ball approached, my nerves got the better of me.

"Hey, calm down, you look amazing" Marlene said as she came up behind me. She squeezed my shoulder reassuringly and I gave her a small smile. I let out a nervous breath as Marlene and I made our way to the great hall.

Severus' POV:

I arrived at the great hall early. Surprisingly it didn't look horrid. The large tables were moved aside and there were three large Christmas trees along with various decorations.

I stood awkwardly, waiting for Y/N to arrive. She should be here any minute. I noticed James and his minions congregated around the table with drinks, spiking the punch, no doubt.

After a couple of minutes of mindlessly sipping my drink, I decided to engage in a bit of meaningless small talk to avoid looking too awkward.

I was deep in conversation with professor Slughorn, when I noticed almost everyone's eyes glued to the entrance of the great hall, I shifted my gaze, and there I saw Y/N.

I couldn't find the words to describe how beautiful she looked. She walked so elegantly it looked like she was floating. I barely realised that she was standing in front of me until she spoke. "You look great Severus" she smiled. I cleared my throat "Thanks, you uh- you look nice." 'Nice' barely did any justice to how she looked.

"I got you something" I pulled out the bracelet from my pocket and handed it to her. "It's nothing big or special or anything, I just- I thought it would look good with your dress and-" "Severus" she cut me off "I love it, it's beautiful" she grinned widely down at it. It looked like she was beginning to tear up. I slipped the bracelet onto her hand. "I'm glad you like it Y/N"

Music started playing, and couples all around us began to dance gracefully. "Would you like to dance?" I asked. Instead of answering, she put both her hands on my shoulders and smiled. I rested my hands on her hips and we began swaying.

Y/N and I were in the middle of a dance when I noticed a familiar giggle. I looked to my left and saw Lily and James dancing. Lily looked gorgeous in her fitted red dress. I watched as James twirled her around.

I don't know how long I had been looking at Lily for, but eventually she noticed me and we made eye contact. In my own selfish rage I grabbed Y/N's face and pressed my lips against hers. After pulling away, I  immediately looked to see Lily's reaction, but she and James had already danced off to somewhere else.

I looked to Y/N, suddenly realising what I had done. She looked broken. She stared at me confused with tears in her eyes threatening to fall.

Y/N's POV:

The night had been going perfectly. Severus had gotten me this beautiful silver bracelet, and even though he said that it wasn't special, it meant the world to me.

As we were dancing, we looked into each other's eyes. I felt so happy and in that moment everything was perfect. Then, I noticed Severus get distracted, he was staring at something. I followed his gaze and noticed Lily. She looked like a goddess, she was without a doubt the most stunning person at the ball. I looked back at Severus hopefully, but he was still staring at her. I was about to say something when he swiftly turned to me and kissed me. Before I even got the chance to process what was going on he pulled away, and looked in Lily's direction.

After realising that she was no longer there he looked at me, guilt in his eyes. I was confused at first, but then it hit me.

He was using me.

I shook my head, finally processing what was going on. My stomach fell and my heat was racing. I felt like throwing up. I ran out of the hall as fast as I could, unaware of the tears that were streaming down my face. I needed to get away from him as fast as possible. I ran until I found an empty hallway, where I sunk to the ground bawling my eyes out.

It wasn't long before I heard footsteps approaching behind me. I stood up, ready to leave, when I heard his voice.

"Y/N wait!" I carried on walking away, my back to him. "Y/N please I'm sorry." That was it. That was the last straw.

I turned around to face him, my eyes blurry from the tears and my makeup was probably streaming down my face, but I didn't care. "You're sorry?? You're sorry?! Sorry for what Severus? Was it for using me? Or leading me on? Or for kissing me for your own selfish reasons? Please Severus, why don't you tell me why you're fucking sorry!

His bottom lip quivered. "I didn't mean for it to get this far-" "Oh that's even better, you were just going to use me for a little while, maybe make Lily jealous and then get rid of me before the ball? Is that what your plan was?" "Y/N, please, please hear me out" he begged, but I was done.

I shook my head and chuckled humourlessly. "Do you know how happy I was? How special I felt? Merlin I feel like such an idiot! I thought you actually cared about me! Can you believe? But no, you only care about yourself and Lily fucking Evans, who literally doesn't give a serpents scale about you! And do you know what the worst part is? The worst part is that tonight, when I'm staying up all night crying over you, you're going to be staying up thinking about her. So you know what Severus? I'm done." I ripped off the bracelet he had given me and chucked it at him, before storming away without giving him a second glance.

Severus' POV:

"So you know what Severus? I'm done." She finished. My heart ached at her words, but shattered when she tore off the bracelet I had given her and threw it at me. Then, she left me alone in the corridor, processing her words.

I considered going after her again. But I thought over what she had said, how much I had hurt her. I didn't have the right to go after her. I picked up the bracelet and made my way to my dorm.

I laid awake all night thinking about everything Y/N had said. She was right about almost everything. I felt selfish and disgusted with myself. How could I be the cause for all her tears, when at one point I was the reason for her smiles and laughs. How could I do that to her? The only thing she was wrong about was what she had said was the worst part, because the worst part was that, that night I didn't stay up thinking about Lily. I stayed up thinking about Y/N, and how I lost her.

A/N: ummm oh my, this book had like 60 reads??? What??? I know it probably seems stupid and stuff, because it's not that much, but I literally didn't think anyone would read this and it makes me so happy when I see that people are actually enjoying the stuff I write🥺👉🏽👈🏽
