Chapter 1

Beginning of a New Start

~~

Eren's POV

It was the first day of trainees camp, and Shadis just had walked past me and some other trainees, giving us a look of... was that respect in his eyes? Well, my eyes must've deceived me. Anyways, he went on his way to confront a trainee with (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes. Her bangs covered her right eye, but I paid no attention to her. She was just another mere trainee to compete for the top 10, anyways.

"WHAT IS YOUR NAME CADET!" Ugh, I hate his yelling. I just wanted to skip this process and get to training, so I can become stronger, and kill every titan in this damn world.

"(Y/n), sir," she responded quietly, but Shadis just scans her before moving on to another trainee. What? Why does this girl get a free pass? I mean, she didn't look nervous, but she was really, really quiet! I huffed internally, and glared at the (h/c) girl. As mine and her eyes met, she immediately looked away and focused on Shadis, who was yelling at the horse-faced boy.

Ugh. I hate being ignored. But she'll be no threat to my position in the top ten.

I forget all about her as I entered the dining hall.

Jean's POV

It was the first day of training, and I already see people quitting. I mean, if they actually wanted to be in the top ten and go live in the interior, then they should have came more prepared. I see the dropouts, the quitters, and I scrunch my face in disgust. It' so lay the first day, for the walls' sake!

That Jaeger boy is talking, but I couldn't care less about what he was saying. He was another trainee to race for the top ten, and I was not going to lose to him.

I will get into the top ten, and I will go to the Military Police.

I will go into the safety interiors, just like my dad had.

Mikasa’s POV

We were in the dining room, and the trainees have surrounded Eren. Their eyes carried fear, admiration, and curiosity. Curiosity.

I hope that I was as pure as them. I want to be curious, to know nothing about the beasts that roam around the world. I want to be ignorant, to not know of how they look, how they eat, and how they smile as if they’re doing nothing wrong. I wanted to run away and strangle them at the same time, and it’s frustrating.

Hopefully, by the end of training, I’d be able to face them without thinking.

Reader’s POV

It was the first day of actual training, and we’re testing if we can balance on the 3DMG. I slip the familiar straps on, doing it quicker than anyone else without getting any attention. I wondered if Shadis is curious why I’m not doing my best, but there’s a reason.

I don’t want to be known by the Military Police. I’ve heard that all the records of the top ten are read by some MP officers, and I can’t risk to give away my mom’s background.

“She was from outside the walls,” my father had told me. “She had beautiful plum eyes, just like your right one.” There, I would nod, encouraging my father to go on with the storytelling.

“Nobody knows this, nobody except for me and you. So keep it a secret, okay?” I would again nod, and I promised that I wouldn’t tell anyone. “She had beautiful (s/c) skin and (h/c) hair, and you definitely got that from her.” I would smile at the statement, and he would chuckle before continuing. “She was a very good medic, and joined the Survey Corps with me when she was 25, and married me when we were both 28. That, is when you came.”

“You were so cute, with those wide (e/c) and purple eyes. I wanted to call you hetero, for heterochromatic, but your mother laughed and said that it was a ridiculous name.” His eyes would darken, and I could sense his sadness, his pain. I would hold his hand tighter, and smile up at him, making him laugh.

“When you were two, she went with me on an expedition. A titan had gotten her, and she told me to go, to run. I didn’t want to, but my horse, magically, ran away as fast as it could, and I had no time to react.” He would shake his head, and I saw the memory, vivid in my mind, and I knew how my mom had done it. But I would keep quiet and just look into his eyes.

“I’m so sorry, (y/n)... If I had just jumped off of the horse, if I hadn’t been frozen…” There would be tears in his eyes, but I would know that it wasn’t his fault. Mom wanted him to keep living, to look after me. If he had stayed, he would’ve died too, and she didn’t want that. She knew that it would be her end, and she knew nothing could stop her from dying.

I would hug him, and kiss his cheeks. He would start crying, and I would comfort him, just like my mom would have, if only she was there.

I snap out of my trance and walk to find Shadis and the other trainees.

Marco’s POV

I ran, the heavy weight dragging me down a little bit. I just bite my bottom lip and run on. I’ve wanted to serve the King since I was young, and if I want to reach that goal, I have to be strong.

I saw the Asian girl that Jean flirted with some days ago, not really surprised to see that she hasn’t broken a sweat since we got out here. I saw the (h/c) girl, also doing well. But then I saw the blond boy, Armin, I think, behind the group.

“FASTER!” Shadis yelled, and I looked forward guiltily. I wanted to help, but if I did, we would both fall behind the group and Shadis would surely have both our heads. The grip in my chest loosened as I saw Reiner helping him. I smile, and run faster to the front of the group. The Jean guy was there, and I studied him closely. His mouth was open ajar, and he was panting slightly. Even with the hood, rain had soaked his two-toned hair.

I will go through this training and serve under the King in his glory.
