Graduation

Reader's POV

219 trainees had made it into graduation. "Offer your lives!" Shadis commanded, and the 104th trainees saluted.

"Yes, sir!" their voice carried out and over, filling the large area.

"From this day forth, all of you who have graduated from being trainees have three options," the head instructor continued. "Firstly, the Garrison, which is responsible for wall fortification and defending the towns. Secondly, the Survey Corps, which resolutely ventures outside the wall into Titan territory. And lastly, the Military Police Brigade, which governs the citizens and maintains order."

He went on to explaining how only the top ten that were announced were allowed to get into the MP. The top ten, from one to ten, were: Mikasa, Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, Eren, Jean, Marco, Connie, Sasha, and Krista. I was in seventeenth.

I was actually glad. The rumors that the Military Police checked records of the top 10 were only rumors, and I doubted they were industrious enough to actually bother themselves with such a task, but it didn't hurt to be cautious, after all.

(Still in Reader's POV)

We were all at the dining room place, eating and hanging around. I don't know who it was, but a male voice shouted, "We can never win!"

Everyone turned to the male and Eren. My sight of the other was disturbed as Sasha was standing right in front of me, blocking most things from view. But I could feel waves of distress coming off of him.

"Mankind hasn't been truly defeated yet!" Eren said, then turned and left the room. I stared at his back as his two best friends followed him.

"Wait up Eren!" Mikasa yelled after him, and I heard Jean say to himself, if that's how you feel, go wherever the hell you want! I'm enlisting in the Military Police Brigade for sure.

I felt kind of bad for him. And guilty, for that was a thought meant for himself. I wished I could turn thing thing on and off, that I could hear when I needed to and stop hearing when I didn't need to. It was slowly growing more out of control, my eyepatch seemingly the only thing that was keeping myself from going over the edge of insanity.

I wanted to fix this problem before we had to make a choice about which branch we would enlist in. For me, the Survey Corps, of course.

Sighing I once again turned my attention to the brunette potato-loving girl, trying to keep my food out of her reach.

People all around me looked at the Survey Corps with admiring eyes. "They say he's as strong as an entire brigade!" somebody around me shouted, and I almost smiled with pride at those words. I could literally visualize Corporal hearing that and thinking What a racket. Maybe he was, I don't know. But it was just like him to think that.

Soon, we were doing our jobs. Some of us were loading the upgraded fixed canons, others were working around the town to supply. Then there was a sudden lightning, and the head of the Colossal Titan peeking over the 50 feet high walls.

People passed by me, rushing for the gates. Pushing past everyone, I met up with my squad, which consisted of Mikasa and a few others.

It was chaos. All around us, people were falling down, tripped by each other or by their haste. They were pushing against each other, trying not to be left behind. A loud crash, and I turned to its source. The gate was demolished completely. Just like Shingara's had.

Hell has descended upon us once again.
