Ones Dearest

The beggining 1

I watch Mary gamble from the back of the room. "SHOWDOWN, FULL HOUSE!" I hear Marys opponent yell with sweat running down his face. "TOO BAD, but I can give you an A for effort." Mary says while smirking and laying her cards. "How- How did you get a straight royal flush! Her opponent says in almost a scream.
"This girl worked her way to the top, after all she got in with a scholarship and had also been a housepet multiple times before. Shes honestly really talented." I say in my head making my way out of the classroom. I went to go report to the president, but she wasn't to be seen, as expected of her. I ended up walking home by myself wondering if Mary Saotome could beat Yumeko Jabami in a gamble. I couldn't decide.

The next morning I woke up, got dressed and made my way out the door and started walking to school because I didn't want to see a Jabami in our academy. I walked for about 10 minutes not realising that I didn't grab my mask on the way out. "Oh no! I can NOT be seen without my mask on, if anyone knew that president had a twin there would be a problem." I turn back around and start running back to the house to retrieve my mask, I eventually run out of breathe and stop to rest. As im looking down at the ground, breathing heavily, I see something moving from my peripheral vision. I quickly glance over and see a Hyakkaou womens uniform and immediately run over to a huge rock and jump behind it. I poke my head out a little to see if I could recognise the student, I saw the hair and immediatley knew it was Mary.
I don't think she saw me, because right now she seems to be focusing on getting her other shoe on, hoping on one foot, she looks so mad. "She probably overslept," I say with a small smile on my face, "This is adorable seeing her struggle to get ready." I turn back and go to the other side of the rock and continue to run back to my house to get my mask.
When I finally reach my house and get my mask, I can tell that school is about to start so instead of walking all the way there and being late, I call an uber and stare out the window, until we stop at a stop sign I notice someone sitting on the ground looking depressed and noticed who it was. "Wait-" I say to the uber, as he was about to start moving again. "Uh, yes mam," he says. I step out of the vehicle and Mary looks over at me, "Would you like to ride with me to school Ms.Saotome? "Ehh? Uh, no thanks. I feel defeated already." "Mary Saotome, please just come, I really don't think you should miss today I've heard theres gonna be a new student." "So? I'll just make them a housepet anyways." "This person isn't a bad gambler, in fact i 've heard shes quite good." "really?" "So will you please accompany me on the way to school?" I said. "Fine, fine, I will."
"So do you know this transfer student?" Mary asks in a stern voice. "No I don't, I just...happened to know she would be transferring thats all." I struggled to say that in a calm voice, "Right..." Mary says in an unsure voice. There was a long silence between us, but finally Mary broke it. "Well Vice-president, why are you always wearing that dumb mask?" "I have my reasons." "Ugh, so annoy-," I cut her off with my own question. "Mary, don't you...also have something thats important to you?" She pauses a moment, as if thinking about it before answering. "...Yes I do, and its none of your business about what it is." "Ok...."
"I wonder what could be special to someone like mary," I think while looking back out the window. We arrive a couple minutes before classes began. "Have a good day Mary," I say. "Uh you too?" she says back with an awkward wave.
