Suddenly their surroundings registered properly in Aiden's turmoiled thoughts.
"We're in CANADA!" He screeched. "you're telling me that the closest pack you could find was in CANADA? There was nowhere closer? Not a single pack in all of AMERICA? Did you risk Sam's life just to get back here? Any pack could have taken her in. Surely there was somewhere closer we could have gone... Surely... How could you be so foolish! I can't believe...."
Liam interrupted his screaming rant.
"She's getting better. Look at her. Her colour improved almost as soon as we set off, the bruises faded so quickly, I've never seen healing like that. We all agreed that it was best to take her back to her own pack, but we kept track of the nearby packs so that if her condition worsened, we'd be able to get her immediate help. I would never have put her in any danger." Liam's expression was soft, yet there was confusion underlying it. He had never seen his brother so protective, so possessive of Sam. Something must have happened in the compound.
"Don't forget she's an Alpha," Varshini spoke up from her crouched position at the rear of the van.
"Most packs wouldn't have been able to help her anyway, it was just a question of rest and time, which she can get from her own pack."
They were right, yet Aiden couldn't calm his distraught heart. It was true that Sam was looking better now that they mentioned it. He had been so caught up staring at her face that he hadn't noticed the bruises fading, her limbs realigning as her broken bones mended. Her skin looked clearer, her cheeks redder as life flooded her.
A small hand came to rest upon his own. Aiden glanced up into Tay's purple eyes. A small smile danced on their face, a look of hope clearly legible on their face.
"We're in Canada." This time his words were barely a murmur. He was home. Finally. He had gotten through the nightmare, and now he would have the chance to relax, to spend time with his mate. At the thought, a smile spread across his face as he mimicked Tay's expression.
Temporarily contented, he sat back letting his cramped muscles relax. He had been crouched over Sam for hours now, and although they still had a while to travel in the van, he finally allowed himself to get comfy. Groaning, he massaged his sore knee and started unwrapping the bandage that covered his wound.
The last few layers of cloth were covered in dried crusted blood. The injury hadn't stopped bleeding since he had been shot, and although it was healing quickly it was far from being fully healed. Yet when Aiden removed the last layer of cloth, smooth, unbroken skin faced him.
His eyes widened in shock and he rubbed his hand over the limb. Nothing, no sign of injury. Even his pain was minimal, almost a residual reminder that he knew was probably more psychological than anything. He had healed, fully, from a gunshot wound, within 3 days.
It was impossible. It would normally take him at least a week to heal from such an injury, not that he was in the habit of being shot. He knew that an Alpha could probably heal within a day, but for an Omega? Not possible.
He couldn't comprehend it. Unless... He glanced at Sam, and again noted how much better she seemed. Her breathing slow and even, her body almost entirely mended. He reached out and shifted her shirt slightly; even the gaping wound in her abdomen had almost fully closed, only a thin line of flesh still visible.
Brae chuckled inside his mind.
"Looks like she's already affecting us," he boasted, clearly proud of their improved abilities.
"I wonder what else has changed," Aiden mused internally. Helpfully, Brae supplied an image of him lifting an entire car with a single arm, a goofy grin on his face as Sam looked on in incredible awe. Aiden burst out laughing, earning him a confused stare from Liam which he quickly brushed off with a small smile.
"I don't think Sam would ever be looking at me like that, maybe with some sort of made horny desire though?" The thought sent a chill through Aiden's body as his mind conjured the image of Sam's face when she was aroused; how her eyes darkened and sparkled. She often pursed her lips, as if deep in thought, the start of a cheeky grin pulling at her mouth. And she would tilt her head down, staring up at Aiden through those thick lashes...
For the rest of the drive, Aiden disappeared into his dreams, excited for his upcoming relationship with Sam. His thoughts started innocently enough; singing together in the kitchen as they cooked up a delicious meal, going running in their wolf forms (at that thought Brae lifted his head in content), swimming in the lake before curling up on the beach. But his thoughts betrayed the other source of his excitement; the thoughts of finally being able to wrap his hands around Sam's waist, the sensation of her body melded against his own, being able to finally taste her... At the thought, he was forced to adjust himself discreetly, the mere idea of making love to Sam having an immediate effect on him. Desperately, he tried to force his thoughts away from that path, away from the thought of what their mating ceremony would entail, instead concentrating on tending for the girl before him. The girl that he knew would invade his every waking thought until the day he died.
A/n: sorry for the slighter shorter chapter! Hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. Are we all ready for some smut? You've definitely waited long enough I think XD
