Suddenly, Kemp threw Kira from him, grasping Sam's hand. He curled her fingers painfully, trying to force her arm up and behind her. But it locked in his hands, refusing to move. Kira took advantage of his distraction to run towards the rest of the pack. The guards didn't even move to stop her, their eyes locked on Sam.

Kemp groaned with the effort of trying to bend Sam's arm. He grunted in satisfaction when one of her fingers snapped, expecting her to succumb to the pain, but she only laughed. Seeing Kira safe, Sam's face suddenly shifted, a sneer curling at the edges of her lips and she held her arm firmly against the pain in her wrist and fingers. Another crack resonated through her wrist, something snapping under his force, but she barely even winced. With her spare hand, she grasped his neck with her claws, digging them into his skin. Using the single arm, she lifted Kemp into the air, dangling him above her. The change in position forced him to release her hand, and she stretched her fingers, snapping the broken bones back into position between her thighs.

"You're right. I do heal quickly." She chuckled at him, eyes flashing red. Using her hand she forced him to look her in the eye. Desperately, he clawed at the fingers surrounding his throat. His face steadily turning blue as he gasped for breath. A vicious growl built in her throat as she stared into his eyes, allowing the hatred from years of torture to build it, allowing the memory of his face as he'd cut her apart to fuel her hatred. She grasped the back of his head with her other hand, and jerked, snapping his neck. He deserved a longer, more drawn-out death, but she didn't have time. She would have to satisfy herself with the sickening crunch his neck made.

Satisfied he was dead she whirled on the guards, who now formed a blockade between her and the pack.

She roared and threw herself at them, hearing Aiden's echoing roar on the other side as the pack attacked.

A large burly guard throws himself into Sam's path and she whirled, ducking under his swirling sword. The back of her heel struck across his temple, knocking him unconscious. She dragged the claws of her feet across his neck as she walked past, ensuring his death. The next guard threw himself at her and she dodged his attack, latching onto his throat with her teeth, violently shredding it.

Aiden had already floored his fair share, and the rest of the pack had paired off. Tay was standing at the back, slightly afraid, but still getting involved when they were needed, acting as lookout and backup.

Sam grabbed a sword off the floor, launching it towards two incoming guards who collapsed immediately. She leapt on a third, gouging at his head with her nails. As soon as he fell she jumped off.

A shout made her spin, and she saw Liam fending off attacks from three different sides. She grabbed a knife from her back, throwing it at one of the guards who was attacking him, as she dove for the legs of a second, dragging them to the ground.

She tried to stand again, but the guard held her firmly as another roared towards her. With a grunt she hoisted the guard up from the floor, launching them at their incoming friend. They both collapsed together and were taken out by Liam who had freed himself from his attack.

Sam and Liam stood back to back, ready to meet the next wave of guards. They were streaming towards them from the forest. And there were more than Sam had anticipated. Her pack still had a chance, but it was growing slimmer by the second.

Suddenly a howl rose from the forest to the East, followed by a howl from the West as Varshini burst from the packhouse. She was grinning and nodded swiftly in Sam's direction before joining the fight with the rest of the pack. She had understood Sam's message.

At the sound of the howls, doubt seemed to creep through the guards. They'd already seen their leader killed, and now the thought of fighting a couple of packs didn't seem to be tempting them.

Sam took advantage of their hesitation, taking out the two closest to her, hoping that her anger would be enough to discourage everyone else from attacking. As predicted, the rest stopped running towards them, some of them even taking a hesitant step back.

Sam roared a challenge at them, and the most fearful turned tail and ran. At the sight of their fleeing comrades, even the strongest seemed to hesitate. Another howl from the forest and the other guards also turned away.

Sam tensed herself, ready to throw herself after them. They had worked for the DIR, and deserved to die.

"Don't. They're just puppets." The voice resounded in her head and she felt her body immediately listen to the words. But it wasn't Aiden's usual gruff voice. Instead, it was Tay's.

Sam turned to her mate, pulling them in for a hug.

"Thank you," she whispered.

At the sight of the fleeing guards, the rest of the pack howled their happiness. Chèn scooped Kira into his arms, holding her close.

"Mate," he whispered, nuzzling himself into her neck, inhaling her scent. Kira smiled up at him, happiness radiating on her tired face.

"Never thought I would ever have had to use our decoys, but at least we know they work! Who would have thought that having motion-triggered wolf howl noises could be a defence tactic?" Varshini giggled to herself, obviously pleased with her contribution.

Sam squeezed Tay slightly tighter, then released them to give Aiden a big hug. Aiden hugged her back briefly, then held her at arm's length, bringing his lips down to meet hers in a sensuous kiss.

"Find a room!" Liam chuckled, winking conspiratorially at Aiden. Sam pulled away from her mate, eyes glinting gold with desire. But she didn't move away from his embrace, instead glancing at Tay, almost asking for their permission to kiss him more. She didn't want to do anything they would be uncomfortable with and was prepared to resist her burning desire for them. Although she wasn't sure how much longer she could resist.

But to her surprise, Tay simply smiled, nodding their head towards the couple. Sam had barely turned her head back to Aiden when his lips softly found hers again. They were gentle, but demanding, clear need behind his actions. The kiss was soft, but Sam broke it off quickly. Aiden whined at her, trying to hold her closer, but she wiggled out of his arms. Grasping his hand, she pulled him towards the house, following the rest of the pack indoors.
