Chad trailed behind the others as they all voiced their issues with being in the play and how they all had other things to worry about. Jason and Taylor with finals, Troy with his truck, and Zeke with his baking. Once they reached the piano Kelsi let out an exasperated groan.
Chad leaned against it and held his basketball to his hip as he waited for whatever Kelsi could come up with to convince them to participate. He also wasn't too thrilled about the idea of being in the play. Ryan came up beside him and shot him a small smile to which he quickly returned. However, their moment was broken up by Sharpay and some new girl moving between them.
"Sorry! Jeez. I thought since it was the last show everyone would want to do it." Once again this caused another uproar of disapproval before Gabriella spoke up.
"Hey, you guys, listen up. Kelsi's right," she said, moving to the other side of the piano, "We should do this. This is our last chance to do something together. Something fun."
"Oh, yippee," Sharpay scoffed from beside Ryan who shook his head at his sister's remark. Gabriella fortunately ignored her and took another look at the others.
"So? What do you say, wildcats?" She asked, hope lacing her voice. The others hesitated for a moment and glanced at one another, weighing the option before once again shooting down the idea. Gabriella sighed and watched everyone bicker before looking over at Troy with a 'please help' look in her eyes. Chad smirked, knowing full well that his best friend was going to crack under that gaze.
And sure enough Troy raised his hand and let out a low, "I'm in," as the others stared at him and shock. He looked between them all before shrugging. "It'll be fun," he mumbled, not even sounding like he himself was quite convinced.
"Oh, boy," Sharpay muttered as the others slowly began to lean towards the idea now that Troy was on board. Chad looked over at her, once again letting a smirk grace his lips.
"What? Worried about the competition?" He asked playfully. Sharpay shot him a glare as she placed her hands on her hips.
"Oh, you wish," she shot back and Chad chuckled. He glanced at Ryan only to see the boy also grinning. He stood up a bit straighter at that, proud that he had caused that grin.
"Well, how long will it take?" Taylor asked, causing them all to look back at the others.
"And what's it even about?" Chad questioned as well, growing more curious about the premise of the show.
"You, Mr. Danforth." All heads turned to look at Ms. Darbus who was entering the room, gentle smile ever present on her face. Chad titled his head slightly as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Me?" Ms. Darbus nodded as she set her clipboard down on a nearby table and motioned for the ball he was holding. He tossed it to her and she caught it before continuing.
"The spring musicale is all about you," she declared. From beside him, Sharpay let out a quiet sigh and when he looked over he was surprised to see she had actually fainted into the new girl's arms. Ryan rushed to grab a bottle of perfume from her bag before handing it to the girl. After a quick spritz was sprayed, Sharpay quickly came to. Chad shook his head before looking towards his teacher.
"Well, if it's about me, can I have my ball back? Please?" He asked, his hands feeling oddly empty without his signature basketball within them. She nodded and tossed it back as she grabbed her clipboard and made her way towards where they were all standing.
"It's about all of you. And all of you will create a show about your final days at East High. We'll call it," She paused, a thoughtful expression crossing her face before her smile widened. "'Senior Year!'"
