"I DON'T THINK I'M ever going to get used to this," Alex said, the three of us just poofing from Julie's house to the top of the Orpheum sign. "Literally. Like– how am I supposed to come to terms with the fact that I'm dead?"
"Like this," I said, clearing my throat and turning to him, holding onto his shoulders. "Alex...you're dead." I dropped my hands from his shoulders and smiled. "See? Better?"
"No," he replied, shaking his head and stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets. "Not better at all. Actually, I think I feel kind of worse."
"He's right, I'm not feeling like I thought I would have." Reggie sighed, slumping his shoulders.
"You've thought of this before?" I asked, both Alex and I turning towards him.
"Well...no, but I mean– ghosts are supposed to be cool, you know? And whatever this is...isn't."
Alex huffed and I sighed, shaking my head. "Hey, I know being dead isn't our first choice, but, I mean, it sure is easy getting around."
"Easy for you, maybe. I lost my shirt on that one." Reggie pouted, holding onto his jacket. In a quick moment, his white t-shirt appeared back on his body and he laughed. "Oohm never mind! There it is."
We laughed and looked out onto the crowded Hollywood streets. It still amazed me how we were dead, and yet I could still feel the slight California breeze against my skin. Yet again, I also thought that ghosts were supposed to be see-through and...well, they weren't supposed to look like people. Like Casper the Friendly Ghost type of ghosts. But we all still looked like we did before we died and besides the whole dying thing...it still kind of felt like we were alive.
"Ok, so," Alex said, letting his hands fall against his knees. "Why'd you bring us here? Just another painful reminder of where we never got to play?" We all looked up to see the bright blue letters of the Orpheum sign, shining just above us. "Thanks, Luke."
"I mean, boys, the game isn't over yet." I smiled, looking down at the sidewalk.
I still wasn't really all that sure of how ghosts normally do this traveling thing. I mean, when we left Julie's– I just thought of this place...and poof, there we were. How Alex and Reggie knew to tag along, I wasn't too sure. Did we share some kind of same ghost brainwave? If I want to poof anywhere else without them, would they know and still come with me? Just another thing I guess I have, well, the rest of eternity to learn.
I just thought about walking on the sidewalk and I poofed down to it, once again, Alex and Reggie by my side. "I'm telling you, we've been given a second chance. Let's find some music. Let's see how many clubs we can hit before sunrise."
