Making my way down to the cells, I could hear the doors slamming shut as the Dwarves were pushed inside. As I got closer, I saw the She-Elf that looked vaguely familiar, but I couldn't remember her name. She was putting Kili into a cell. Just as he was about to go in, he stopped and turned around, looking at her, "Aren't you going to search me? I could have anything down my trousers." My jaw dropped at Kili's words. I couldn't believe he had said that. I could feel my anger starting to rise as I stared at him.
"Or nothing," the She-Elf responded, shutting the door and I silently thanked her for not sticking her hand down his pants to check.
"Why does the Dwarf stare at you, Tauriel?" Legolas asked her as she walked away from Kili. Tauriel? Of course! She was the one who trained me in battle. She always was the better fighter. The way Legolas looked at her, I could tell he was jealous. It was kind of an issue in our family.
"Who can say? He and his brother are quite tall for Dwarves. Do you not think?" Tauriel responded as she moved past him.
"Taller than some, but no less ugly," Legolas remarked, glaring at Kili. I glared at Legolas for saying that, even though I knew he couldn't see me.
"Leave it! There's no way out!" Balin yelled as the Dwarves tried knocking the doors down. "This is no Orc dungeon. These are the halls of the Woodland Realm. No one leaves here, but by the King's consent." The King's consent. My eyes widened and I quickly ran back the way I came, following the path in my head to the Throne Room. Making my way up the stairs, I saw a blonde head and long robes, immediately knowing who it was.
"Some may imagine that a noble quest is at hand. A quest to reclaim a homeland and slay a dragon," my father spoke as I slowly made my way up the stairs. Out of habit and nervousness, I bowed slightly before continuing on into the room. "I myself suspect a more prosaic motive. Attempted burglary. Or something of that ilk. You have found a way in." He slowly circled Thorin, who stood unmoving. "You seek that which would bestow upon you the right to rule. The King's Jewel. The Arkenstone. It is precious to you beyond measure. I understand that. There are gems in the mountain that I too desire. White gems of pure starlight." I moved off to the side, watching carefully and hoping that Thorin wouldn't do something he would regret. "I offer you my help."
"I am listening," Thorin conceded.
"I will let you go if you but return what is mine."
"A favor for a favor," Thorin replied, turning and walking to the edge of the stairs.
"You have my word. One King to another."
"I would not trust Thranduil, the great King, to honor his word should the end of all days be upon us! You, who lack all honor! I have seen how you treat your friends. We came to you once, starving, homeless, seeking your help. But you turned your back! You turned away from the suffering of my people and the inferno that destroyed us." Thorin said something in Dwarvish as I dropped my head, remembering my father's face when he found out I was helping the Dwarves.
"Do not talk to me of dragon fire. I know its wrath and ruin," my father whisper-yelled, getting close to Thorin's face. Suddenly, his face started to change. The skin disappeared so you could see the bone and muscle and his eye turned completely white. I covered my mouth to avoid gasping out loud and my father moved back. I had never seen him like this before. "I warned your grandfather of what his greed would summon. But he would not listen. You are just like him." He waved his hand as he walked up the steps to his throne and two guards came, grabbing Thorin's arms. "Stay here if you will and rot. A hundred years is a mere blink in the life of an Elf. I'm patient. I can wait." The guards took Thorin down to the cells with the rest of the Dwarves as I stood there staring at my father. I wanted to take off the ring and yell at him, beg him to let them go, but I knew that would only get me into trouble as well since I wasn't supposed to come back here. My father moved to a private room and I slowly followed behind, stopping on the stairs. "I know you're there. Why do you linger in the shadows?" My eyes widened; he had caught me. My hand moved to take the ring off when I heard another voice, coming from behind me.
"I was coming to report to you." Turning, I saw Tauriel come down the stairs.
"I thought I ordered that nest to be destroyed not two moons past."
"We cleared the forest as ordered, my Lord. But more spiders keep coming up from the south. They are spawning in the ruins of Dol Guldur. If we could kill them at their source," Tauriel was cut off by my father. I slowly walked past them, trying to be as quiet as possible.
"That fortress lies beyond our borders. Keep our lands clear of those foul creatures. That is your task."
"And when we drive them off, what then? Will they not spread to other lands?" Tauriel asked, pacing.
"Other lands are not my concern. The fortunes of the world will rise and fall. But here in this kingdom, we will endure." My foot slipped, causing a sound and making my father's head turn towards me. I ignored it and continued down the stairs.
