"What do you need to ask?" Vic sat beside me I noticed his hands shaking slightly.
"Ariana, well her and I have become pretty serious. I really like her and... Well" he paused for a moment.
"Jesus Christ vic spit it out." I said slightly irritated.
"We'll you being her best friend and all I was...well I want to ask her to marry me..." My heart dropped to my stomach as his words escaped his mouth. He wants to marry Ariana? I'd lose her forever. Not that I ever truly had her but shed be gone, shed be his.
"And your telling me why?" I asked suddenly bitter. It took every muscle in my body not to reach out and strangle him. Don't get me wrong Vic's a great guy. He makes her happy but also keep in mind Ariana is my everything. I love the girl and here I am sitting I front of some guy who's telling me he's about to propose to the girl of my dreams.
"Well your her best friend and I'm asking for your permission... I'd ask her father but well he's not around..." I sat there staring at vic, no not at him through him. It felt as though everything was falling down around me. I was torn. I knew Ariana was happy with this guy and I even said it myself they were a cute couple. They just seemed like they were made for each other.
"You have my best wishes..." I finally said quietly. I didn't hear Vic's response or even hear him leave. Suddenly I was numb. I knew one days would have to let Ariana go. She had to live her life do what makes her happy. But I never prepared myself. I had to let her go move on. Not leave her completely but my feelings towards her. I couldn't let them show, not anymore. The night dragged on, Jenny called me out to go to this poetry reading thing she heard about I joined her and Ollie. I sat at the booth across from Ollie. He was quiet I don't think I've ever heard him talk much. Jenny left to get drinks.
"You friends with vic?" I nodded. Then noticed he still looked like he had to say something.
"What do u need to know?"
"Jenny when I'm around her, I can't keep my thoughts straight...I've got to know who she is, she's a mystery." He ran his hand through his hair "is she always so closed off?" I chuckled and nodded.
"She doesn't let people in easily Ollie." I noticed a look of despair and frustration "she's got you wrapped doesn't she?"
"I can't get close to her but I know she has got me, Wrapped up tightly in her fist." I felt bad for him. Jenny was hard to get close to Ariana and I alone still have some trouble with it. But I've seen more then one guy struggle to get to her, she's got a way with guys it seems. They get hooked on her.
"Ollie... You gotta give it time. Jenny's she's a complicated girl but trust me the wait will be worth it." Jenny came over smiling. She gave Ollie a kiss and slid in beside him.
"You ever read your stuff here?" I asked her just now noticing the man on stage reading a poem of his own. She laughed.
"God no I haven't...but tonight I just might." She looked over at Ollie who was looking down at his glass. He looked up at her surprised.
"Really?" Jenny smiled and stood up as the announcer called her. Hr hands shook as she got to the stage.
"I wrote this recently doesn't really have a name but here it goes..." Her voice shook slightly as she started the poem. I was shocked to her the beginning, it was about love. I've never heard her talk of love before. "Love is always worth it because you become a better person every time you love someone from the simplest caring for a friend to the deepest desire to love someone til the world ends" she finished. People clapped and cheered as she quickly walked back to the booth. Ollie greeted her with a passionate kiss. My phone began to ring.
"Hello?"
"NICO!" Ariana's voice came over the phone, "omg nico vic proposed! He fucking proposed!" I couldnt tell if she was happy or not. My heart sank as I prepared to ask the quest I dreaded the answer too.
"No way. What'd you say?" I tried my hardest to fake the excitement.
"Come here nico. Bring Jenny too." With that she hung up. I looked up at Jenny and told her Ariana wanted us of. She dragged Ollie along. I pulled up to her house and got out. I hesitated before walking up the front steps.
