I am enjoying my burger and fries with a large glass of soda. When I hear a loud crash and then get soaked with soda. I look up to see a waitress covering her mouth with her hand and a man standing close to me also soaked in soda.
"OMG, I am so sorry" the waitress exclaims.
The manager rushes up to us and apologises saying that we can go to the shop next door and buy some new clothes on him.
"I think we will both require a shower?" the man says pulling his wet shirt from his stomach.
"We have a shower in the staff room, that you are both welcome to use" he assures us.
We leave our bags with the manager while we go next door. The shop clerks help us find what we need and then we make our way back to the restaurant.
"What time is your flight?" the man asks
"1pm" I reply
"Same here" he says as we are shown the stairs leading up to the staffroom.
"I will be done within five minutes" I say and he lets me go in first.
I quickly strip and jump into the shower after rinsing the stickiness from me. I quickly dry, rip off the tags from the new clothes and get dressed again.
I pick up my sticky wet clothes from the floor and exist the small bathroom.
"Wow! A woman that actually keeps her word and showers quickly!" the man says
I raise my eyebrows at his statement and then shrug my shoulders as he looks up and then blinks looking at me. I grab my glasses and put them on as he enters the small bathroom.
I look around and find a plastic bag for my wet clothes and stuff them inside then twisting it closed so I can place it in my bag.
"Hey, how do you turn the shower on?" the man asks sticking his head out the door.
"Wow! A man that can't figure out how to turn on a shower?" I reply
"You pull the lever towards you and then turn it to your desired temp" I tell him before he can say anything.
I turn and make my way down the stairs. I do not catch what he mutters but smile as I hope he will keep his generalised ideals to himself from now on.
I thank the manger who thanks me and does not let me pay for my meal. I make my way towards the gate I need and I am thankful that I do not have to wait long before they allow us to board.
I find my seat take out my laptop and headphones. Put my bag in the above compartment. Turn my phone to airplane mode and then strap myself in before opening up my laptop and starting to work on my new paper that will be published in Septembers Environmental Earth magazine.
I booked in business class to allow for more room. I work on it until I feel a tap on my shoulder and look up to find the man who was soaked with soda sitting next to me and a stewardess with a meal.
I thank her and shut my laptop taking the tray from her.
"A small world isn't it?" the man sitting beside me says
"So, it would seem" I agree.
"I did not introduce myself before I am Matt Drake" he says holding out his hand
"Kensi Adams" I say taking his hand to shake.
"That sounds familiar?" he murmurs
I smile at the stewardess as I pass her my tray and open up my laptop again, ignoring his comment. I plug in my earphones and listen to music while I work on my paper.
