He Said He'd Wait

A Mixer?

Kate and I walk into the economics department and find the room the mixer is held in.  I really hate that moment, when all eyes turn to you, as you walk through the door.  Kate however seems to love it.  She holds her head up high and walks in front of me.  

I get the feeling she would do a twirl with a little encouragement.  I move off to the side letting her have her moment.  I smile towards Drake and pick up a glass that I am hoping is just juice. 

Kate comes to stand at myside "I knew this dress would have everyone staring" she whispers. 

I glance towards her and see her grinning looking around the room.  I look as well and do not really see people staring at her.  I shrug thinking if she needs to think that everyone is staring, then let her.  

"Everyone if you could gather around please" a man says in a dark blue suit.  

"Welcome everyone, I am Professor Musk head of economics.  I think it best to have everyone introduce themselves so we can get to know one another" Prof' Musk says.

 A woman steps forward in a black dress she looks to be in her 30s.

"Hello everyone, I am professor May.  I teach economics and statistics.  I hope you all work hard to achieve your goals" she inclines her head a little before stepping back.  

I clap my hands together and bow back.  When I smile at her she seems a little surprised that I greeted her back as anyone from her native China would do.  She smiles backs though.  

When it gets to Drakes turn all the girls present take a step forward.  I have to hide my smile behind my glass as he takes a little step back.  

"Hello I am Professor Drake economics" he says keeping it short. 

"Do you have a girlfriend?" someone shouts out. 

 Prof' Musk steps forward again "we are happy to answer questions relating to your studies.  Please be respectful at all times and you will receive respect back.  Now we are a little short staffed as Professor Dun has had to take leave for personal reasons.  We will endeavour to make sure that this does not effect your studies to much.  Now if we can start with the young gentleman in the front there.  Please introduce yourself?"

 I listen with half of my mind as I look at Drake and wonder about prof' Dun.  He smiles at me a little before turning slightly to the person who is now introducing themselves.  

"Shelly from Kentucky, taking business and economics" a little red head introduces.  

I smile at her as she reminds me of  Sherly Temple.  

"That red hair though!" Kate mutters beside me 

"She is cute" I defend.

"Hi everyone my name is Matin, I come from Turkey and taking economics as a major.  Nice to meet you all" a tall thin, dark haired man says. 

Kate steps forward "hello everyone, my name is Kate Beats.  I come from Washington DC and chose this university as it is far away from DC.  I am taking economics and business" she says clearly.  She waits for people to react before stepping back again.  

"Hi I am Kensi Adams, economics is my elective" I say simply. 

I look a little behind me to pass the introductions on. 

"The Kensi Adams? Environmentalist and activist?" Matin asks before the person behind me can speak.  

I look towards Matin "activist is a little strong, but I have written some papers that have been published" I say hearing some gasps and drawn in breaths.
