Whatever was needed for my costume, I got it all in a random local store and my mother added the necessary touch up. Jason for some reason decided to be a green plastic soldier, like the ones in toy sets! It was amusing to watch how he dyed the soldier costume and then painted himself with green body paint...but let's leave it at that.

So on Friday night I was ready. I was Mrs Mad-hatter. My costume consisted of brown suede boots, frill skirt, velvet tailcoat with a vest, fingerless gloves and bright yellow bow tie, and to top it all I wore the mad hatter hat and even applied the same make up to go with it.

As I Arrived at the party the school band was playing, or rather trying to play a tune, which would have been good if they all had started at the same time and wouldn't have rushed to finish it.

I looked around the room to see if I could recognise any of my friends and almost immediately saw them at the corner table as away from the speakers as possible, which were blaring out the badly tuned music.

"Hey, look at the new girl!" Paul exclaimed as soon as I joined them.

"Wow" George agreed.

"Are you Mad-hatter too?" asked Candace. And before I could ask her what she meant by 'too' I heard Kevin say,

"This is literally the best coincidence in history of coincidences!"

I turned around at the sound of his voice and froze. He 'too' was...Mad HATTER!

I noticed that Angela and Candace had become some jade twin sisters from some series. George was a "zombie basketball player" as he added, and Paul was "Frankenstein"

But the coolest was Kevin.

"I can't believe this! This is the coolest coincidence ever!" I said.

"Hey, could I talk to you for a minute?" Angela said and without waiting for my answer she led me towards the soup table on the other side of the room.

"What do you think you're doing?" she asked.

"What do you mean?" I asked, puzzled.

"You think I can't see? How long have you both been planning this?" she blurted.

I couldn't believe what was happening, was she accusing me? I tried to back track as fast as I could.

"What are you talking about? We didn't plan anything! I don't even know him so well."

"Oh Really? First, he brings you to that party, then I see you two hanging out every day after school, and now what, are you a couple? Mr and Mrs Mad hatter or something?" she asked.

I almost took a step back "Kevin tutors me after school. We study and that's it! And as for today, we hadn't decided on it! It's a coincidence I swear!" I said trying to sound as sincere possible.

"So, there isn't anything between you people?" she asked a little hesitantly.

"No definitely not" I assured her. "Do you have a thing for him?" I asked trying to steer the conversation away from me

"Well, we have known him for quite a long time but, I know we are best friends. But something I just wished...we were more. I don't know if it's something he wants too...you know." She said sadly.

"Don't worry, there is nothing going on between us." I said reassuringly and she smiled. "Thank you...I didn't mean to...I mean..." she struggled to get the words out.
