Chapter 9

on shifted around on the hospital bed, feeling unmotivated and drowsy. It's been two hours since Midoriya visited, Gon felt guilty and sick to his stomach. 'I didn't mean what I said, Killua-' Gon thought, remembering what he said to the white-haired boy. 'I mean Midoriya, not Killua! Who was that Killua again?' Gon anxiously scratched the side of his face, turning over to look at his plush.

'That's Killua, right?' Gon questioned himself. He decided to tour the hospital room, not knowing how many days he'll stay in there. He forced himself to stand up and at first, everything was spinning. His vision became black static, and he lost feeling in his whole body. Gon managed to stay up with the help of the hospital bed. When he recovered, he reminded himself to stand up slower next time.

Making his way towards Killua, the plushie, Gon picked him up. He also tapped on Kōki's glass, startling the frog. Gon grinned and gave a quick wave, earning a wave from back with his front leg before going back to swimming in circles. Gon giggled at his pet frog before turning around and walking to the hospital window.

When he looked out, he realized he was only three stories up from the ground. The window was also sealed shut for reasons that Gon didn't know about at the time. Gon felt frustrated because he wanted to feel the breeze against his face, so after placing Killua gently on a seat, Gon tried opening the window with everything he had. Which wasn't a lot considering he was still only four. Meanwhile, Kōki held in a laugh which he failed at and bubbles rose to the top of the tank. Kōki was getting even more amused watching Gon's cheeks puff.

Steam exploded out of Gon's ears and the boy gave up. He snatched Killua off the seat he was placed on and stomped over to the restroom. When he entered the room, Gon saw a shower. He then turned his head to the mirror. At that moment he now noticed the dry mud clumped in his hair and... was that a dead fish?

Gon picked the dead fish off his hair, wondering how it managed to stay on his head for two days now, and why he wasn't bathed. Gon placed Killua on the sink countertop.
"Look Killua, it's a dead fish!" Gon smiled, shoving the dead creature near the plushie's face.

Somewhere in another dimension, a white-haired boy screamed.

"I should save this, dad cooks the best fish!" Gon smiled, shoving the dead fish into his hospital gown. He didn't even think about it getting old or the smell that emitted from it. Now that he thought about it, when the adults patted his head, did they feel the dead fish?

Suddenly, a nurse knocked on the door before entering with Gon's food. Gon exited the bathroom and felt sick at the sight and smell of the food. He didn't feel like eating at the moment so he tried to refuse. That only caused the nurse to explain to Gon why he needed to eat. Gon half-heartedly listened, only agreeing to eat because he didn't want to listen to the nurse's long lecture.

Gon quickly ate the food to prevent himself from gagging or throwing up. When he was done, the nurse congratulated him. Gon asked if he could take a bath and the nurse agreed with his idea. The nurse helped Gon get ready, although she screamed when the dead fish fell out of his hospital gown. The nurse threw the dead fish away, much to Gon's disappointment, and went back to filling the tub with bubbles.

Gon put Killua in the tub with him, washing him gently. The nurse slightly gagged at the dirt-filled tub. The nurse took Killua away, making Gon tear up. The nurse then grabbed a bucket of clean, soapy water and gave Killua back, but this time with a toy boat and the bucket of water next to the tub. Gon shoved the boat away and squeezed Killua in between his hands. Glaring at the nurse. The nurse just left the boy alone, closing the curtain and sitting on the toilet listening to the boy splash around.
