"Gon." A quiet voice echoed in his mind, it was strangely familiar and soothing. He felt a hand on his shoulder, holding onto him gently.
"Gon, wake up!" the voice asked once more. Gon's eyes fluttered open, light pouring into his...room? He looked up at the white ceiling and turned his gaze to the female next to him. 'Why is she so familiar?' Gon thought. The female's face was blurred out, but he could clearly see her ginger hair.

"I'm glad, you're awake! You don't want to miss your special day do you?" the gingered women asked. She ran her hand through Gon's hair, it made him feel relaxed and at home.
"Killua's waiting for you at the front door," She announced. Gon's eyebrows knitted in confusion, 'My stuffed animal?' Gon sat up and looked at himself in the mirror, he looked older? He was even wearing a strange full-on green and orange outfit.

Gon walked down the stairs with ease, as if he had walked down them millions of times in his life. When he arrived at the front door, he opened it up, expecting to see his stuffed cat, but was instead met with a girl? No, wait, a boy. It was hard to tell because his face was so blurred out and his body was very lean and covered by baggy clothes.

"What took you so long, were you too busy finding your dad!?!" the boy puffed out, arms crossed and head facing away. He shifted around before facing Gon again, a slight smile on his face.
"I would uppercut you right now, but seeing as it's your birthday you can have a pass."
"Thanks?" Gon responded, not knowing what else to say.

"I bet you stayed up late to look at the stars again. I mean, look at those bags!" Killua said, placing his fingers around Gon's eye and widening them. For some reason the proximity made his cheeks flushed with a pink hue.
"Your eyes are so red!" Killua shouted before leaving the poor boy alone.

"I never sleep late though!"  Gon protested. Killua rolled his eyes, giving him a 'Sure you don't' look. More people with blurred faces came inside the house over time. Some of them brought food and others brought presents.

Gon was happy and thought this was the place he belonged. He even noticed some of the blurred faces began to clear up the more time he got to talk with them. Killua's face was completely visible, his sharp blue eyes shining with joy. Gon would be lying if he said they were beautiful because to him, they were astonishing.

Gon went ahead and walked towards Killua, placing his hand on his shoulder.
"I like your eyes." Gon blurted out. Killua's face became as red as a tomato. The others in the party gasped and squealed.
"Don't say that! Especially when K------- is here!" Killua shouted. Gon closed his eyes and apologized. He stuck his tongue out as well as rubbing the back of his neck. But the moment he shut eyes...

Everything shattered into a black abyss.

At first, it was eerily quiet. Then, flickering was heard. Gon slowly opened his eyes. He looked around and only saw black. He couldn't tell which way was up or down, or if he was even standing on the ground.

"Hello?" Gon asked, his voice cracking. He began to walk towards the sound of electricity crackling, hoping to find someone. He tried to call out the names he knew but was met with silence.

He continued to walk for what seemed like forever. The sound he was searching for never getting closer.
"Am I walking the wrong way?" Gon asked himself. He stood still before hearing the noise draw near.

The electricity grew louder and louder. Gon turned his head and saw a head of white fluffy hair standing under a light.
"Killua!" Gon shouted in joy, running over to his friend. 'Wait.. did my mental monologue just describe him as my friend?'
