I was just about to get the answers to all my unanswerable questions when there was a sudden crash that sounded terribly like a window breaking.
I slammed the book shut and tosed it into my jacket pocket, standing up so fast I nearly knocked the chair over.
Footsteps started pounding from beneath me. I looked around for Terry only to find him throwing a book at the closest full length window. It shattered easily within seconds and Terry hopped out gesturing me to follow suit.
I didn't even have time to think of how were gonna survive jumping out of a window on what seemed like the 2nd floor of this massive building before two men in dark blue and black uniforms came climbing in from the previously broken windowOh shit
I raced for the window still adorned with pieces of broken glass on it sides and flew out. I landed roughly on the set of stairs stationed on the side of the building meant to be used in case of an emergency. I recovered quickly giving Terry a pointed look with the question "where to next?" written all over my face.
He looked down then up and then at the armed guards approaching from the stairs above.
What the...
I didn't have time to react as Terry pulled me from the way just before an ear ringing shot peirced through the air.
"There shooting at us, we have to hurry" He said through gritted teeth as we practically took the steps 3 at a time.
"No shit, genius" I said when we got to the last landing. I pulled out my hand gun and fired back...
The smell of an approaching gun fight filled the streets as residents in the neighboring building started coming out to see what all the fuss was for. There was another set of stairs at the other side of the building which for some reason we were now running to. Terry had also taken out his gun to slow them down.
"Where are we going?!" I yelled at Terry as he raced up the stairs, screaming for me to follow.
"Were surrounded at all corners! There only one way out." I opened my mouth to question him further but the words got caught in my throat as a bullet whizzed passed my ear.
We bolted upward not stopping once until we got the stairs at the first floor.
Terry stopped and turned around abruptly, sirens blaring in the background."Shane your going to have to trust me with on thus one..."
"Huh?" Was all I could say before he jumped onto the railing swaying back and forth nearly falling to his death.
"Are you insane?!?!" I stared wide eyed at his wobbling legs.
"Amongst other things... now follow my lead" he soared from the railing down to the fence. Luckily there were no barbed wires on it. He balanced himself attempting the climb down somewhat safely from the incredibly high fence.
Then he stopped to look at me still firmly where he left me."What are you doing? Shane, Jump!" I hesitated my heart pounding feircely in my chest. A million possiblities on how things could go so wrong so quickly ran through my head. But this was not me. Shane Ryvrs doesn't doubt herself, she takes action.
"Fuck it!" I said jumping onto the railing fast before I could think of more reasons not to jump.
I closed my eyes holding onto the upper stairs for support so I wouldn't fall once I landed on the cold railing bar luckily without so much as a slip.
The stomping of heavy trained feet became so close I could bet it was right around the corner. The building was huge but these were professionals they'd hunt us down faster than we could blink. I looked at Terry. Eyes begging me to jump. No telling what would happen to me if I fall into the hand of these law makers. Judgement in the underworld was cruel and very disturbingly final. Being detained again would just waste all the suffering, pain and dirty work I had to endure in that hell hole of a rehab. I was not going to be locked up again. My fingers slowly loosened from the cold metal as I stared down the slim fence between me and my freedom. I took a deep breath, just for good measure, and jumped.
Soaring through the air for a split second, my leg only measly grazed the edge of the fence before I fell disgracefully backwards. The whole world spun before my eyes as I plummeted onto the hard ground inches from the fence as the air was knocked straight out of my lungs.
Everything happened so fast I could barely comprehend it all not to talk of regaining my composure. The shock from actually not landing on the fence hit me in full force as the pounding feet approaching me was now in my line of vision. Despite my aching ribs I stood up abruptly and reached for my gun, my trusted dagger safely tucked away in its sheath at my belt ready for me when I needed it.
I pointed the gun upwards at the fast approaching blur and began to shoot.
