I stood there on the stage, frozen. The band kept playing, but I was just standing there in complete shock. I could see Sam sneaking me confused looks, but he kept going and took over my part.
I couldn’t figure out who to stare at first. There was Reece, staring at me. He looked perfect, as always, and my heart skipped a beat when he sent me a charming smile.
Then, there was my father. He was staring at me. But he looked so angry, like he was about to kill someone.
Before I knew what was happening, my father jumped onto the stage. The band stopped playing and I heard Sam and Justin shout out in shock.
“Hey, hey! What the hell are you doing?” Sam asked angrily. Chad, Ruby and Justin ran towards my father.
“Kristine, get off this stage now,” my father ordered.
“I’m sorry, and who are you?” Justin asked.
“I’m Kris’ father, and I’m demanding that she gets off this stage right now,” he said angrily.
“You’re not my father anymore. You made that quite clear when you kicked me out and did this,” I said, pointing to the bruises on my face.
“Kris!” I heard a voice shout from the bottom of the stage. It was Reece. He jumped onto the stage and turned to my father.
“Oh, so you’re Kris’ father, are you? Well, I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time,” Reece said angrily. He pulled back his hand and punched my father hard in the jaw, sending him flying off the stage. People in the crowd gasped and ran towards him.
“Holy shit,” Justin gasped.
“Nice one,” Sam said.
I turned to Reece. “Reece, what the hell are you doing here?” I asked him.
“I came to see you, Kris! I was worried about you. You just ran off without telling anyone where you were going,” Reece said.
“Umm…maybe this isn’t the best place to be talking. Let’s deal with Kris’ father first, and then you two can go talk at one of the tables,” Sam suggested.
I nodded and jumped off the stage. My father was leaning over the bar table with an ice pack on the side of his face. Reece was standing next to me and the Chad, Ruby, Justin and Sam were behind me.
“Now you know what it feels like to be punched,” I said angrily.
“Your mother and I are leaving,” Dad randomly said. I frowned.
“Where are you guys going?” I asked.
“Away from this stupid town,” he said.
“Oh, and what am I supposed to do then? You guys just leave me again? What about money?” I asked.
“Your mother said she’ll put an allowance in your bank account every week. But that’s all you’ll ever see of us again. The keys are under the mat, you can stay in the house. I came here to have a goodbye dinner with workmates, but I’m not staying in this hell-hole. Goodbye,” my father said angrily before storming out of the bar.
“Well…that was…eventful,” Justin said.
“Kris, your father sounds like a total ass-hole,” Sam said.
Ruby and Chad nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, things got a bit awkward because it was the band on one side, and Reece and I on the other. They must have noticed, because Justin gave an awkward cough.
