"Meg, help!!", I screamed as I struggled to close the book. We both struggle for a while to close the book the it doesn't budge, the book finally throws both us to the floor and opens completely, immediately every thing stopped, there was dead silence like the whole world around us was put on pause. I pick up the book and look at Megan who's also looking like she has no idea what just happened or what to do. "What just happened??", she asked with a shaky voice. "I have no idea, I've gotta get home home, maybe my parents would".
"I'm coming with you", she says getting up quickly. "Meg your parents will be here soon...", she cuts me off, "I need to know what I just saw okay, and also there's no way your leaving me here alone", she says walking out the door, gesturing for me to follow her. We both walk down and outside and see Megan's parent drive in and we both walk over.
The both walk to us as well, we greet them and they respond nicely. "You kids look new here, are you looking for someone or you're lost, we could help you with directions", her dad says with a smile, probably a new joke old people came up with I thought. "Really funny dad, anyways, I'm going over to Zack's, we're tryna figure something out, I'll be back home soon", Meg tell her parents.
"Okay kids, just be safe okay, get to your homes early, word on the street is that crazy things are starting to happen around here, just be careful alright?", "yes sir".
I and Magen walk away slowly and quietly. "Well that was weird". Meg says, "couldn't agree more, are they always like that??".
"They can be ridiculous sometimes but this tops all of that", she says and we start laughing, we keep on talking and laugh while walking till we get a sense of normalcy, almost even forgot about the book, but as soon as we're at my place, right in front of the door, it all comes rushing back, this time with a funny sensation, I start remembering what happened at Meg's room with the book, glimpses though, but it's like I was seeing images of things that didn't happen.
"Hello??, you there", Meg snaps her fingers continuously in front of my face, I must have lost track of reality, "Are you there or should I open the door to your house for you to walk in?", she says. "Yea yea, just felt a bit drowsy", I open the door and walk in with Meg, "for some reason I'm having a bad feeling about all this", I say to Meg while looking around, some things are a bit different here, "is it possible that your parent replaced somethings here so fast while you were gone?", this doesn't feel right", Meg says.
"Back at your place, your parents, they acted like they didn't know us, telling us to get to our homes safely, I mean you home is with them"
"Excuse me, what are you two doing in here??, how did you get in my house?", my mom says, quite rudely and interrupting the two of us.
"Really mom?, stop acting like you don't know your son and his best friend"
"Mom?, you just called me mom", she scoffs, "babe!!, they're two creepy kids down here, I don't know how they got in here but one of them just called me mom", she says out loud, " I don't know you two, and your parents are probably worried sick about we're you both are so you should leave my house, and you have to leave right now"
"Hey hun, could here you quite clearly what did you say??", my dad says coming down the stairs. "Dad, please we need your help and mom's acting a bit crazy".
"Son, if your mom is going crazy then we're not the right people you should be meeting, you could start with a hospital maybe"
"What is wrong with the two of you, you're my parents!!", I yell out, frustration and anger in my tone, and then it hits me. I hold Megan's hand and walk out of the house immediately.
"Zack what's going on, your parents and mine, they're behaving like they don't remember us, this is some kind of joke right?, they're probably trying to pull of some crazy prank", she says trying to smile.
"What if it isn't a coincidence, what if there's a chance this is all because of what happened with the book today"
"Don't be silly that is too unnatural and impossible why would you think that, you really think our parents have no memory of us?"
"Well what happened with the book today is just as unnatural", we start raise our voices, "what is what happened also caused unnatural things to happen?"
We stay quite for a moment staring at each other. Meg suddenly opens my backpack and pulls out the book, we find a bench not to far away from there and she opens the first page slow, we saw the same character until the 4th and 5th page. "What the hell?" Megan and I find our pictures as one of the characters in the book. I take the book and flip to the next page that was once empty, but this time, written boldly on it was....
