The next morning Sherlock and John take a taxi back to the Rudkin residence, Lestrade and Sergeant Donovan pulling up to the house just as they exit the cab. Sherlock waits on the pavement for them to join him and John.
"Are you sure about this, Freak?" Donovan asks once they approach.
"Positive," Sherlock replies simply.
"Well come on then," Lestrade urges, already making his way up the stairs.
The butler lets them inside and leads their group upstairs to the office of Alex Rudkin, Michael's son.
"Oi!" Not expecting any intrusion, Alex is startled by their entrance. "I thought I said I didn't want to be disturbed," he hisses at the butler.
"They insisted, sir," the butler defends. "Said it was to do with your father's death."
Alex's demeanour changes completely. "Ah yes, such a terrible shame," he says, forlornly. "I'm devastated."
"Yeah, I can tell," John quietly quips, making Sherlock snort.
"Mr. Rudkin, I have reason to believe that you were the one who killed your father," Sherlock says, stepping forward.
"What? This is preposterous!"
"Your plan was really quite ingenious, wasn't it? As a pharmacist, you would know the reaction grapefruit has to prescribed medication. No one would bat an eye if you suggested he should have grapefruit juice to benefit his health."
"I beg your pardon? And what reason have I to kill my father?"
"The maids always listen. You see, lovely Letitia overheard your argument with your father. He was going to write you out of his will. With your increasing debts, you desperately needed that money."
"Without that old bastard I'd be bankrupt," Alex sneers.
"And I'd imagine you were already planning this, weren't you? The threat of disinheritance simply forced your hand."
"Fine! I admit it! But don't think for one moment I regret it!" he screams.
"He's all yours," Sherlock says to Lestrade, who takes out his handcuffs.
As Alex Rudkin continues to scream, damning his chances of innocence, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson return home to 221b Baker Street.
