Jinora's POV
I know I sound like a brat when I tell anyone about my birthday.
But all I wanted was to invite a few friends over for a movie nigh or to just spend the day in the library.
But all week I've spent it falling Suki, my mother and Ikki in shops and taking to different people about my party.
I listened to Kai and talked to them but it didn't work like at all.
At this point I don't even know the theme of my party.
The one decision I have now made is to make it a surprise party so I don't need to deal with the stress of it.
During the October holiday I've spent over 22 hours meditating to try and keep calm but it's not been working so for last two weeks since I've been running, well more than I already do, every morning at 05:00 I go out on a two hour run.
I will spend it running around the city with Pepper.
I put on trainers, leggings, a matching sports bra, with a baggy top on top, my hair in a tight pony tail, earphones and a water bottle.
It's currently Friday the second of November my birthday. But today I just needed a break and started my run at half 4.
Normally on my runs I'll do about 10-11 miles but today I just needed a break before starting my day so I ended up doing about 20 miles.
I arrived about home at quarter to 7.
Had a shower and changed into my uniform for school. Then did some medicine.I slowly walked down the stairs passing the kitchen... smelling something weirdly familiar coming from there.
"Mum what the spirits are you making?" I called slowly walking into the kitchen... I heard Melo laughing from inside.
I walked in seeing Melo sitting on the kitchen island licking a spoon behind him stood a short figure wearing a long blue dress... she has grey hair which was tied back.
"Gran Gran?" I asked quietly walking closer,
"Jinora! My darling!" She smiled turning to face me. I gasped and ran the few steps hugging her tightly.
"I've missed you so much!" I smiled leaning my head into her shoulder.
I loved my Gran Gran, she was amazing and when I was younger would tell me stories about her adventures.
"I missed you too my darling!" She said as we both pulled away.
"Why didn't you tell me your were coming?" I asked a little surprise since we talked on the phone yesterday and we texted all of the time.
"It was supposed to be a surprise!" Melo smiled still licking the spoon,
"What are you making!" I asked
"Brownie!" She smiled.
The brownie my Gran Gran makes are the best. They are different from normal brownie because they were an old air nation recipe with a little water tribe mixed in. They were my grandpa favourites along with me and Melo but Ikki can't stand the things, they make her sick and neither can my dad.I spent ages talking to Gran Gran which almost made me late for school but since it was Friday and we got out early, (that's a lie, I normally have PE but my coach let me skip this time since it's my birthday and they though I needed a break.) Gran Gran was going to take me to get my nails down and go out for lunch as a treat. I was just so excited it put me in such a great mood.
I was in chemistry doing book.
"Okay what is your deal today?" Kai asked looking over to me,
"What do you mean? It's my birthday shouldn't I been in a good mood!" I smiled playing with my pen,
"Yeah, but I thought you would be less happy about you know the party situation?" He asked lowering his voice
"At this point I am in such a good mood nothing could diminish," I smiled
"Okay? Did someone drug you?" He asked still looking at me concerned,
"No! But this morning I ran 20 miles, meditated and my Gran Gran arrived surprising me!" I smiled grabbing his hand and starting to draw on it,
"Wow! I knew you were an upbeat person but it's weird seeing you actually happy?!" He smiled looking at the large smiley face I drew on him,
"What do you mean?" I asked turning to look at him,
"Well you always have a smile on your face but most of the time it's fake. You know just for show... but today there is nothing fake about your emotions!" He said a little bluntly.
I didn't know if I was mad about what he had just said or shocked at the fact he knew me so well, I every day I would put a smile on my face and walk down the corridor smiling, chatting and talking to people I barely knew. Even if I felt like crying I would just do it like a trained dog... sometimes I hate my conversation with Kai, he was so real and could always tell how I was feeling or thinking. Even know we had only known each other for a few months, I could honestly say he was my best friend. (Apart from Opal and Iroh but sssshhhh!)
...
School was the same as usual but now Gran Gran is taking me to get my nails done.
We walked into the pretty SPA place which was normally went it.
And sat down starting to get our nails done.
"So anything new or instructing happening?" She asked getting confused,
"Not really I think we've already talked about it all!" I smiled as my phone kept buzzing.
'Jinora'
'Jinora'
'JINORA!'
It was Kai, he is supposed to be in PE not texting me.
"So who's that?" She asked as I picked up my phone,
"Oh just Kai!" I smiled rolling my eyes texting him back,
'What?'
'This is gonna need to be quick I'm getting my nails done 💅'
"Kai? That boyfriend of your?" She asked side eyeing me, as I tried not to blush at her comment.
"Gran, there is a difference between, a boyfriend and a friend who just happens to be a boy!" I said
'Right sorry... what's your favourite animal?'
"Oh I know darling!" She smiled as I started texting back,
'Why???? A sky Bison or a Winged Lemur'
"Okay! Kai and I are just friends!" I smiled looking up from my phone as he texted back again,
'I knew it!'
'Bolin though it was a Fire Ferret 🙄'
"And yet you smile when he texts!" She said giving me the side eyes as I put my phone down on the table,
"Yeah! Because it was a cute text!" I smiled putting my hands in the table,
"So tell me about this boy?!" She asked.
