FOLLOWING AN EXHAUSTING TEAR FILLED DRIVE — VANESSA had finally arrived to her father's house in Los Angeles which he shared with his wife Kristin, despite not having children; Kristin treated Vanessa as though she was her own, and much like her stepfather Brian is a second parent, so was Kristin to Vanessa.
❝ Oh sweetie! What happened? Your dad said you didn't sound well over the phone ... ❞ said Kristin.
After a much needed rest, Vanessa, Kristin and Steve were sitting in the back garden — Cali and Moolah, Steve's dogs took their place near Vanessa to comfort her, ❝ I ended things with Colby. For good, he cheated on me with a fellow superstar. And that was it! ❞
❝ Who was it? ❞ said Steve.
❝ It doesn't matter Dad, it's a done deal and I'm pretty much over it ❞ said Vanessa.
❝ Sweetie, we shouldn't press Vanessa further ❞ said Kristin to her husband. She then turned to Vanessa, ❝ How about I make some hot chocolate with marshmallows, how does that sound? ❞
❝ Thank you Kris ❞ said Vanessa smiling.
❝ Of course dear ❞ said Kristin, she then glanced at her husband for a moment. Don'tupsether, she silently told him.
Once Kristin entered the house, Steve turned to Vanessa; despite their once turbulent relationship, the pair were able to mend faces and grow closer in the process with Vanessa ultimately forgiving Steve for his absence early on in her life. ❝ Jade bug ❞ said Steve gently.
❝ Dad, don't ... I should have listened to you. I wasted ten years of my life loving someone to the point where I forgot myself in the process, healing from this will be hard but it's something I have to do ❞ said Vanessa. ❝ Just so you know I am not angry, I just hated you at first but I understood so please don't blame yourself for not being there ❞
❝ It won't stop me, I should've been there for ya when you needed me ❞ muttered Steve.
❝ Dad I think this was meant to happen for me to realize that I need to look after me ❞ said Vanessa.
❝ Why don't you stay here then? Kristin and I would love that ❞ said Steve.
❝ It's okay Dad, I can go back to my house ❞ said Vanessa.
