"Hey ummm...." said Lucy.

"Yeah?" Replied Olivia.

"Uhm..." Lucy couldn't get the words out. She couldn't quite say what she wanted. This was very hard for her.

"Uhm.... do you..." said Lucy

"Do I what? Come on, spit it out already!"

"Do you...have...anyone to go uhm...to the dance with?" Said Lucy

"No I actually wasn't planning on asking anyone, why? Do you?"

"No I don't have one..."

"Well I guess since we're like friends now I guess...maybe we can go together?" Said Olivia

Lucy became a little flustered. She didn't expect Olivia to say that.

"What about your friend Mia? Cant you go with her." Asked Lucy

"She found someone to go with so I'm on my own, if you didn't wanna go with me you could have just said so...."

"No no no! I didn't mean it like that.." said Lucy

There was a long pause.

"Yeah umm...I guess we could go together the girls also found dates so..." said Lucy

"But just as friends right?" Said Olivia

Those words...they hit Lucy hard... she felt her heart sink.

Olivia didn't know what to say.

She didn't know about being "just friends" but she knew that Lucy obviously didn't like her like that so she said they would go as just friends.

"Uhh...yeah! Of course! just friends...."

They fell silent for a minute.

"So...what time can we come and get you?" Said Olivia.

"Umm...7:00pm is fine..." replied Lucy.

"Okay.."

There was an awkward silence until Lucy and Olivia heard Olivia's mom call there names.

"Yeah mom?" Said Olivia

"Lucy's mom hear to pick her up. Did you have fun?"

"Yes I had a great time, we just played games." Said Lucy.

"Well it's nice to see you two get along. Say bye your moms waiting."

They both said bye and Lucy left.

"Uhh mom?" Said Olivia.

"Yes sweetie?"

"For the dance I planned on going with Lucy because her friends and Mia already have someone to go with."

"That's great that you want to spend more time with her! You two are going to be best friends again!"

"Yeah...just two best friends...uh! So could we get her at 7:00pm?"

"Of course! I'll text her mom."

The words best friend didn't sit right. Olivia wanted it to be...more! Lucy felt the same way but Olivia didn't know, she's to oblivious.

On the ride back home Lucy couldn't stop thinking about her day with Olivia.

She didn't know one person could change her completely...

Her day felt magical, the sound of Olivia's voice was relaxing and when she gets excited or when she's happy...well it made Lucy smile.

Lucy didn't know for sure if Olivia felt the same way but she still hoped.

Maybe this would be a good time to tell her. Lucy thought.

I should do it! Just do it! But then there's a chance she might not like me back or like me the same why and not want it be friends...

She decided to wait and not take that chance of losing Olivia...
