Adalyns pov
after our...adventure in the kitchen, we had brought some cookies to Lucy who was in her room, leaving them outside her door. George decided he needed a shower and I wandered through the house until I found myself in the master bedroom.
I looked around and hit play on the CD player in the bedroom, Freefall by Rainbow Kitten Surprise started to play. I smiled as their usual mix started to play. I walked around the room, picking the photo of them at their wedding with me standing at their feet with a big smile, holding the basket that I threw flower petals from.
I sniffled and put the photo face down on my mother's nightstand, looking at how the room remained untouched since they passed. clothes still hung up, bed unmade with the decorative pillows on the floor. my mothers book still bookmarked on the nightstand with her reading glasses on top. my fathers the plants were still alive. I smiled as the tears started to fall.
'lucy must be watering them' i thought as I touched the waxy leaves of the fiddle fig tree.
the song faded out and Stella brown by Jelani Aryeh began to play
I chuckled softly at the song as I remember my parents dancing in the kitchen to this song so often. I ran my hands along the photos that sat on their dresser. I smiled at all the happy photos of them. I wiped my nose and eyes while I opened one of the drawers of the dresser, the scent of my mother's perfume that clung to her clothes filling my senses as the song changed to First Class by Rainbow Kitten Surprise. I picked up one of her sweaters and held it close to my chest.
I folded and out in back in, closing the drawer as I went to leave. I saw George standing in the doorway, his arms open
I hiccuped and ran into his arms, grabbing onto his sweater
"oh, bunny..." he said, petting my hair as I cried into his chest
"How did you find me?" I asked, clinging to him
"lucky guess that you'd be somewhere sentimental," he said softly, tilting my chin up so he could look at me, wiping the tears that clung to my cheeks. I smiled at him as Like Real People Do by Hozier began to play.
"lucy must be missing them too. shes watered the plants but hasn't changed anything else" I mumbled softly as he began to gently sway me to the music. he took one of my hand from his back and held it in his hand. I moved my other hand to his shoulder as his was moved to my waist, putting my head against his chest.
he kissed the top of my head as I sniffled, trying to slow down my crying as he attempted to distract me. he hummed softly to the song and I closed my eyes, focusing on the vibration of his voice and the rhythm of his heartbeat. I finally calmed down as the song ended, A shitty love song by Jye filled the silence. George continued to slow dance with me to the music. we stayed there until the song ended.
"my love, I think you need to get out of this room," he said as the cd started to play the first song again
"I know, I know." I said and sighed "they're happy tears..." I looked at him with a smile.
he smiled back at me, his wet hair dangling in front of his face "you'll be okay, bunny." he leaned down and kissed me softly "we'll fill this house with happy memories, alright?"
I nodded and wiped my face "merlin, you'd think I'd run out of tears by now" I said, making him chuckle "cmon let's get you some water" he picked me up bridal style and started to walk out of the room. I clung to him and laughed "you're too good to me"
"no im not. Im just what you deserve"
