"Get your lazy ass up." Obsidian muttered as she patted her brothers head. He had never been a morning person. He let out a strangled groan before rubbing his eyes. Obsidian left the room so he could get ready and greeted her mom. She was busy making pancakes while her younger brother talked her ear off.

"Hey Dill." Obsidian greeted happily. He gave her a cute grin in return while she wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

"Hey O. Mom made pancakes!" He excitedly spoke. He reached across the table and grabbed a waffle from the middle with his hands, which her mother shot him a glare at his actions. He dropped the waffle with wide eyes. Dillon could always made her laugh.

She sat beside him and secretly gave him a fist bump under the table. She had always knew Dillan liked her best out of the twins. She was planning to keep it that way.

"Well, look who decided to get up." Her mother spoke to her brother who wobbled out of his room.

"Definitely up now. No hot water again?" Spencer asked.

"Just behind on the gas bill, that's all. It's fine I get payed this week. Besides a cold shower-"

"-Now and then is good for the soul." All three siblings repeated the rhyme, which their mother had basically repeated all their lives. She laughed at their antics before finally sitting down to eat.

"Okay but Beverly Hills though?" Coop asked Spence as they walked the school hallways together. Spencer nodded letting out a sigh.

"You told yo' mom yet?" Coop absentmindedly questioned.

"Nah. You know how she gets." Spencer argued.

"I'm telling you, that woman don't play, man. If Grace finds out, you'd be eating Mayonnaise sandwiches by the end of the night." Coop stated seriously.

"What is it with white people and their Mayonnaise sandwiches?" Spencer shook his head.

"It's like a drug to them." Obsidian said jokingly as she caught up to the two friends. Coop greeted her quickly by slinging a arm around her.

"What's up, Baby mama?" Coop flirted. Obsidian was quick to push her arm off of her shoulder while Spencer gave Coop a playful glare. The girl was quick to raise her hands in defense.

After a long day of school, which Obsidian sucked at, they finally made it home. Their mother greeted them with disappointed expressions. Spencer was about to question what was wrong but she was quick to start before him.

"Coach baker explained to me everything." She said gesturing the the man on their couch.

"How you doing Spencer? Obsidian. It's nice to see you too." The Coach said.

"How could you not tell me Spencer? You too Obsidian!" Their mother crossed her arms furiously. Their mother had found out about the offer at Beverly Hills.

"Mom-" Obsidian said.

"Don't mom me right now." Their mother stated. Well damn. Obsidian could tell she was really mad. She decided to stay quiet after that.

"So that's how it is? I say no, you just go around me? Look I don't need help man. I'm happy where I'm at." Spencer said getting in the Coach's face

"Happy? Is that right? You think I didn't hear about that shooting at your football game? That I didn't get a call about your little fight?" Their mother said. Obsidian knew about the shooting but not the fight.

"What fight?" Obsidian asked her brother. He turned to her guilty before her mother spoke for him.

"Yeah. Another fight today. He's been in and out of trouble for years. You too Obsidian. You don't think I know your smoking habits? Weed, really?? Alcohol drinking too. You both falling down the wrong paths." Their mother disappointed acknowledged.

"Look. Maybe your father-" Coach Baker started before Obsidian butted in.

"We don't have a father. Not anymore" He gave her a confused look at her outburst.

"Corey left a few years back. We have seen him since." Her mother elaborated as she panned her eyes from twin to twin.

"That's a shame. I'm sorry." The Baker said truthfully. He seemed to actually feel guilty so Obsidian let it slide.

"Tell me that going to Beverly isn't the best thing for you. Please." Her mother said. She held his hand tightly giving him a pleading expression. Obsidian watched her brother as he thought for a moment. When he looked at Coach Baker, Obsidian knew he made his choice. He was going to Beverly.

Obsidian had waken up at her normal time the next morning. She rolled over to look at her brother but he wasn't there. For a moment she forgot what he had decided and nearly started to panic. Then she saw the note that he left her.

'Dear O,
Going to Beverly.
Starting today.
Stay Safe.
Love Spence'.

She felt a small pang in her heart once she finished reading. It wasn't that she was sad that he was leaving, she was so incredibly happy for him, it was more of a loss feeling. Like she had lost her bestfriend and brother at the same time. She took the letter and grabbed a pin. She hung it onto her wall, right above her pillow, so she could read it before she slept.

She was now the only James at Crenshaw High. She now how to fend for herself. She had to take care of her family now too. And she was going to do it.
