Adelaide Whitmore couldn't say her life was crazy; in fact it was so boring she really thought she was dying while she was alive.  Don’t get me wrong, she was alright.  It had been six months since she last cut.  They were weaning her off of her pills because she was showing improvement but life was still just. Boring! She was thinking about cutting again.  Not really but it was a passing thought and that scared her a little. That’s when she came home to her crappy little apartment on the wrong side of town to find a box sitting in front of her apartment door.  She worked the night shift and had just gotten home at seven in the morning so she knew the mail hadn't come yet. It wasn't large but boxes were still kind of exciting to her so she brought it in despite the weirdness.  When Adelaide opened it there were three envelopes inside, one bulging slightly, and a DVD case.  One of the envelopes said ‘read me first’ so she picked it up and opened it.

Dear Adelaide,

I know this is going to sound crazy but you just have to read this, please. I’m you from the future, God, just reading that over again sounds nuts but I’ll prove it. You have a scar under your chin from being an idiot on a scooter when you were eight. You have a tiny heart tattoo on the bottom of your foot that you think no one knows about (everyone knows) that you got when you were sixteen at some party.  Your foot hurt so bad you limped around for a week.  Right now you have a crush on that guy at work or maybe that guy you saw on the metro.  Wow, a million years later and I still remember that guy.

Mm, he was yummy, she thought about the guy on the metro she saw last week.

I believe the word we used was yummy.

Adelaide didn't know if she believed her.  That would be crazy right? But she hadn't told anyone about the metro guy.

Still don’t believe me? This is where it gets tough.  Every day when you wake up you have to seriously convince yourself to get out of bed. Your therapist says its normal but you still hate it.   Your around six months sober but you still think about it. You’re wondering if life is always going to be this boring, when you’ll actually be happy again.  You will, if that’s any consolation.  So I found this homemade movie the other day and it’s just so amazing and I love it so much so I thought I would show it to you.  Prove to you that you will be happy.  Watch the movie and then watch it again.  When you think you’re ready the thick envelope has some pictures.  Then when you’re ready for the next letter, and you’ll know by then what’s coming.  Go ahead and read it.

Adelaide

She watched the movie, and she watched it again.  The second time tears were streaming down her face out of happiness.  By the fifth time the tears were dried and sticky and she was just listening as she looked through the pictures.  Then she was hugging them to her chest tightly and she knew they deserved to see these too.  She glanced at the envelope and was terrified. Adelaide held it, staring at one picture; one picture that had her eyes tearing and wanting it all so bad.  The only thing that haunted her was what if.  What if this wasn't real? She was opening the envelope anyway.

 Adelaide,

It’s real.  I know you are afraid but it’s real.  Every morning I wake up next to him and fall in love all over again.  He’s so beautiful and so good.  Oh, Adelaide, he’s my everything.

You know what’s coming.  You have to show them, they deserve to know and damn it you’re going to have to meet them sometime so why not tomorrow? Yup tomorrow.  You can keep reading if you want but I suggest you set this down and go to bed wake up at nine tomorrow.

Adelaide set it down and zombie walked to her bed.  Setting her alarm and falling slowly asleep.  The picture still clutched in her hand. When she woke up she didn't remember everything at first so she mentally picked out her outfit.  She rolled over to find the picture and smiled.  She could get used to waking up next to him. No! No she wasn't going to wish for this.  She put the clothes on that she had chosen before because she wasn't letting them change her.  Her black skinny jeans were a little loose around her waist.  She may have been skipping a few meals out of boredom.   She grabbed her red bra and her Freddy Kruger shirt.  It had three rips down the back and she loved the way it looked in her red bra, not to mention one sleeve fell off her shoulder.  She pulled on her combat boots and grabbed her leather jacket before falling into the bathroom.  Her hair was originally brown but was currently a muddy red color that she kind of liked.  Her curls were perfect today, thank God and she only put on a little make up.  She grabbed the letter and read the next line.
