Sarah Caba’s alarm blasted like a fire alarm.  She gasped awake and, like every day, she swore she needed to change that damn alarm. She wanted to sleep, she hated 6 in the morning on principal but she pushed off her three blankets anyway because she had responsibilities.  Her toes freeze on the tile floor of her kitchen.  She turns on the coffee maker and feeds her roommates dog because she never does it herself. She walks to the bathroom and squints at the unforgiving light she flicks on.  Her light brown hair sticks up in every direction and she giggles at it.  Her makeup is smeared because she never takes it off at night.  She turns on the shower, waiting for it to warm up.  She turns on her iPod as it blasts some unknown band from some unknown country.  It’s not even in English but she doesn't much care, she likes the beat.  She pulls off her tank top that also has some unknown band but she knows this one is from Australia.  She pulls off her long pajama pants and hops into the shower.

When it came to music, Sarah only liked the ones that were obscure.  As soon as they had a music video or sometimes even a record deal, she dropped them without another thought.  Now, Sarah actually had great taste in music so she forever had a revolving playlist.

When she got out of the shower, Sarah found her best black pencil skirt and a light pink blouse.  It was her first day at this job and she didn't want to mess this up.  She had had four jobs in the last month because she would get so bored and quit.  She didn't know what she wanted out of life so she settled for jumping jobs until she found her calling.  That was until she realized that she was short on rent money and she actually needed a solid gig, whether she liked that or not.  She put on black heels that she knew danced on the line between hooker and librarian but she hoped that mixed together to say business woman.  She put on minimal makeup that did not accent her green eyes and pinned her hair back away from her face.

She walked to the kitchen and sighed at the sight of her roommate drinking her coffee.  She grabbed a red bull from the fridge and left without a word.  She really needed a new roommate.  She pulled up to the office building, she knew she was going to be a secretary but it didn't occur to her until now that she had no idea what the company actually did.  She shrugged and walked in.  The woman at the front desk was cold, she gave Sarah a badge and pushed her toward the elevator with the only instructions being 10th floor, ask for Adelaide.

There was another woman on the 10th floor that pointed her to around the corner but didn't go with her.  She turned the corner and came face to face with two desks, one empty and one terribly messy.  Sarah hoped whoever it belonged to would let her organize it. There was a girl sitting at the desk but she was turned away, filing something.  The girl had black hair that was badly straightened and pinned back.  She wore a pencil skirt too and a long black sweater.

“Um, excuse me?”

“Oh hi” the woman spoke but didn't turn around, “I’m Adelaide, I’ll be right with you but if I stop now I’ll never find my place again.”

Sarah giggled, “Take your time.”

“Yes!”  The woman shouted, holding a folder over her head, “Done.  Okay, I’m Adelaide, how may I help you?”  She spoke as she turned and plopped the folder in front of her.

The woman was very beautiful, with big brown eyes and very minimal makeup. “Hi, I’m--”

“Sarah.”She whispered staring at her with wide eyes.

Sarah smiled awkwardly, “Yea, I mean yes.  Sarah Caba, I’m here for the secretary job?”

“Oh!”  Adelaide smiled and stood. “Yea, yea, I’m Adelaide I’m the other secretary.”  Adelaide came to stand in front of Sarah, her hand held out. “And I already told you my name but then I said it again, okay wow.  As you can see I’m not good with the whole talking thing.”  She smiled kindly, “that’s why they need two secretaries.”
