'I'm not a protagonist of a novel or anything, I'm a college student, who likes to read. The like you could find anywhere. But...if for an argument's sake, you were to write a story with me as the lead role, I'd be a character with no talents, no glory, and the story would certainly be...A tragedy.'

It's been a few days since Kaneki woke up at the hospital. Apparently, he had been involved in a serious ghoul accident and suffered severe injuries, but somehow still managed to survive. He felt sick just at the thought of that fateful day, of how he had been on the brink of death and was somehow still breathing. That accident was a result of him going out on a date with a girl named Rize, who turned out to be a ghoul. Rize Kamishiro. Oh, how stupid he had been.

He should've stayed loyal to [Name].

He leaned back, black hair shielding his eyes before the intense lights of his hospital room; his mind once again flooded with sick thoughts, and couldn't even hear when the doctor came in, sitting on a chair beside his bed. "How are you feeling today, Kaneki-kun?" the man asked, not surprised when he didn't receive a proper answer. "Hmm, so the nurses tell me you haven't eaten much of anything since you've been admitted. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with you."

"I feel okay. It's just my sense of taste..." he muttered, trying to understand the situation. When the doctor asked him to explain his statement, he looked down, fiddling with his hospital gown. "Well, everything tastes disgusting to me." He missed the small smirk that appeared on the doctor's face. The boy had no idea that he had his aggressor's internal organs inside of him.

"Probably psychological trauma. It was a serious accident. You're lucky to be alive. Don't rush yourself. As I said, time heals all wounds. I'll stop by later. You have a visitor."

'There's nothing wrong with me. Then why do I feel this way?'

Everything that happened that day, didn't feel real. Kaneki felt as if that was just a strange dream. But ever since then, he hadn't felt like the same person. He was...different somehow.

"Kaneki-kun?"

'That voice...'

He must've been dreaming. This accident took him away from the precious lady he needed to see, to talk to. Now he'd been in this hospital for so long that he had started hallucinating that she came all the way to his hospital room just to see him. As if that would happen. He just had to wait four more days until he could see her again at University.

"Is this a bad time? I could come back later if you're not feeling well?"

That was when he finally realized that she was actually there. When his eyes locked with hers, his heart started pounding inside his chest, all of his problems suddenly disappeared. There was this light that shone through his heart, cleansing his mind of all the bad. His angel came all this way to see him.

"[Last Name]-san?"

She took this as a sign to stay, approaching him with small, careful steps. Then, she offered him a small smile and sat on a chair beside his bed.

"How are you feeling? I got the news from your friend, um, Nagachika-kun. It was a complete coincidence we met. He was worried about you. You didn't really talk to him, so he asked me if I could check up on you. Since we're taking the same course and all."

"Uh, thanks." Kaneki didn't know what to think. Was he disappointed that the girl of his dreams didn't really come out of her own accord, but was set up to do so? But even if she was, he couldn't be happier to see her. He took a good look at her [e/c] eyes, complete sincerity and concern filling them. No. He was glad Hide asked her to come. He couldn't ask for a better gift. He just needed her by his side.
