Hi, I'm Ava, and I'm 17. I go to a high school in San Francisco, and am nearly the best in my class. I get straight A's, and I'm leaving for school right now.

"Bye Mom!" I yell out the window, before dashing out the door, but not before grabbing a donut. I know, not the most nutritious, but it was that, or the nasty-tasting cranberry granola bars my mom stores in the basement.

"Did you remember to bring your lunch!?" Mom yelled back. I turned to her. Sure enough, my pasta was in my Mom's hand. I must have forgotten to take it out of the fridge. "Why are you leaving so early?" she asked. "It's 7:20! You could be eating an actual breakfast instead of that!" she pointed to my powdered donut.

She was right. I was leaving earlier than usual, but me and my friend Annabeth agreed to meet at the school library to plan the Architecture  project due Friday for engineering club. "I promised to meet at Annabeth at 7:30, and it takes me about 20 minutes to get to school! I gotta go, now!" I shoveled the rest of the donuts into my mouth and dashed to the bus stop. I checked the bus time app, which said the next bus would be coming in three minutes. I sighed in relief. Usually, it would take about 20 minutes to walk to school, but the bus that I took infrequently because it came so unpredictably was faster, only about 10 minutes long. I hop onto the bus and plop down on an open seat.

Anyways, I'm fairly popular in High School, but that's mostly because I hang around Annabeth so much.  I got off the bus and start walking towards the library. Checking my phone, I see that it's 7:30 at the time I stride through the library doors. I see Annabeth sitting down at a table reading a book, while a guy tried to chat her up. Have I talked about Annabeth yet? She's basically the most popular girl in the school, and she is gorgeous. Basically every guy had a crush on her the day she got here, and they haven't given up. I can't blame them, she has nice flowing blonde hair and has sharp gray eyes. She's my best friend and all, but I won't lie, I really wish I had her looks, and what girl wouldn't. I look at the guy who was talking to Annabeth. Glasses, braces, blonde hair, yup, that's Timmy! Timmy is also a nerd, if you didn't know, but unlike me and Annabeth, he's a nobody for the most part.

"For the 4th time, Timmy, I'm not going to prom." Annabeth said irritated. "And if I was, I wouldn't be going with you!" Timmy slumped his shoulders, and wandered off as I approached the table. "Hey Ava. Just on time, huh?"

"Just." I responded. "I'm surprised you didn't Judo-Flip him."

Annabeth shrugged. "I felt bad for him. Also, I only Judo-Flip guys who are extra persistent or something like that." She sighed. "Why won't they get into their heads that I'm taken!"

"Probably because they've never seen this boyfriend because he lives in New York." I snorted.

She shrugged. "He does."

"Right, anyways, how are we starting this bridge-"

"Here are the blueprints I drew out last night." She pushed a slew of drawings of a suspension bridge to me.

I looked them over, groaning. "Why didn't you leave some for me?" Have I also talked about how freaking SMART Annabeth is? I'm top 2 in my class, so I'm pretty nerdy myself, but Annabeth blows my grades out of the water, which is ironic considering she has ADHD and Dyslexia.

"Here, I think you made a mistake with the angle of the four arches. Didn't the rulebook say it wasn't supposed to not be 45 degrees?" I said.

Annabeth took a look at the blueprints again, cursed, and took out her eraser. "Can't believe I missed that when drawing this. I suppose I just shoved it into the  back of my mind."

"Did you hear about the new guy that's new to the school? Liz said he saw him as he was being walked to the main office." I asked.

Annabeth sighed. "To be quite frank with you, I don't really care about this new student, and especially if its a guy, because I really don't need another Timmy stalking me everywhere I go."
