To their disappointment, Christian wasn't waiting for them at the house. That along with a feeling of dread he couldn't shake, made him worry. Cana hadn't said anything the whole way home and now that they were here, a cloud of sadness hung around her. Owen knew she was worried about Christian, even if she wouldn't admit it.
" We have to find him." She said, breaking the silence. He knew the anxiousness she felt. It mirrored his own.
" You think you can help me track him by his scent? I'm sure it's all over his room." She said, talking a little too fast. What he said must have really got through to her.
" Hey." He said and grabbed her to pull her against his chest, hoping she couldn't feel his racing heart. He needed to help calm her.
" Breathe. We will find him." Owen said, praying he was right.
" For all we know, his phone died while he was stalking him." He doubted it, but if it helped clam her, it was worth it. She took a calming breath at his words, but then headed straight for the door. She wasn't in the mood for comfort, she wanted action.
" I will do what I can." He said as he answered her earlier question and grabbed his keys to followed her.
Cana was right. Christian's scent was all over his room and as he watched, she bent down to take a deep breath. He knew she was memorizing his scent. He didn't know if it would work, but it was worth a try. They didn't have any other ideas.
" I am going to change and follow the scent. He wouldn't keep him in town. It would be too risky." She reasoned and he knew she was right.
"Once we get out of town, you should change. I might need your help." She said and started taking off her clothes.
If it came down to a fight, it would be better if both were ready, and wolves had more natural weapons then humans. Even without his experience4 in fighting in that form, he still figured he could at least serve as a distraction, or he could use his knowledge from fighting as a human, he considered.
" If my parents research is right. Lucien is a wolf like us now, but he will be different. My parents said that not everyone can handle what comes with being like us and I suspect he is one of them who can't." She explained, but he had already figured out the part about him being like them now.
" You already had an infinity with wolves. You were already drawn to them, but Lucien wasn't and from what I heard from him, he is full of anger. That anger will feed his wolf and you know what happens when you mix anger and power together." She said as she finished stripping, and he tried his best to listen to her while he did the same.
Owen knew she was thinking of the day they had met him. He had been full of anger and frustration. Not a good combination that like she said, would likely feed his wolf. The realization made the situation even worse, knowing that Christian was missing.
Yes, he did know what could happen when those mixed. Lucien probably had a kind of high from his new abilities. They were addicting to Owen, and he wasn't a dominant type. Well, except when it came to wining Cana and her wolf over. He thought with a smile.
He watched as she changed, and he followed her when she darted out the door. She had no difficulty picking up Christian's scent and she followed it enthusiastically. It showed just how bad she wanted to find him and assure herself that the was okay.
As she suspected, Christian's scent led them out of town and she left Owen, while he changed. He hid his clothes under a tree branch and was panting by the time he caught her. She really could move fast when motivated and he was definitely out of shape.
Before long, she took off at a run and he knew she was running to fast to track his scent. She must have figured out where Christian had been taken. Soon, he figured it out as well. He knew the path she followed. He was taking them back to where it all began. To the cabin were they all first met. Why hadn't they thought of it before now!? It would be the only place Lucien was familiar with around here.
