The car ride was silent and the only sound that could be heard was the deep breathing of the young girl. They quickly reached their destination and had to now say their long due final goodbyes. They stared at each other in awkward silence, not knowing what to do or say.

"I'm going to miss you" the young man started off.

"I'm going to miss you too."

"So this is it? We are actually going to finally break up and not even of free will?"

"Well we were supposed to break up since we were 14, so this is long overdue."

"I know, but I don't want to lose you like this. You're hurt, and I don't even know why."

"You don't need to know why anymore. You are no longer my boyfriend and I shouldn't even be talking to you right now."

"Dear. Dear no, don't say that. I don't want to lose you like this. It isn't right."

"Now you know the pain I felt all those years ago. The pain you chose to ignore."

"I'm sorry. I was a terrible boyfriend and now I can't fix any of it."

"It's fine. I uh have to go now. Thank you, for everything."

She opened the passenger door letting a gasp escape her lips from the shock that she had felt. She didn't want to go. She didn't want him to feel that pain alone, but she had no choice. Leaving him like that would be so much easier and would cause much less pain.

"Dear wait. Please."

"What?" she turned around to face him and saw a tear escape from him. She reached to wipe it off, but was cut off.

He quickly leaned in and kissed her. A long, desperate kiss, that could have lasted ages if not for her pulling away.

"This isn't right" she whispered. "We can't do this."

"Please."

He leaned in and kissed her again. This time instead of pulling away, she deepened the kiss. She placed a hand on his cheek and began wiping away his tears. He reached and placed his hand on the back of her neck, entangling his fingers in her hair. He desperately wanted to keep her close and placed his other hand around her waist while deepening the kiss even more. She kissed him again and they slowly began making out. It wasn't passionate, but just slow, soft, kisses not wanting to accept the truth that this would be the last time they ever saw each other again.

When they pulled away they both started crying. They couldn't console each other, as they both knew this was their final goodbye. No explanations or love. Just an empty goodbye without anything said.

"I love you." The young man had said that phrase multiple times, but something about this felt different. It felt empty, yet full of so much emotion it overwhelmed the very phrase.

"I love you too."

The young girl left the car and began walking up the steps towards her apartment. She stumbled on the steps as the exhaustion kicked in nearly making her faint on the stairs. When she reached the door, she looked down at the car and greatly wished she could run down to him and kiss him for a while longer and pretend that this was all a dream. She knew it would never happen as she unlocked the door to her apartment. Her boyfriend had locked the door and brought her keys when he took her to his mother's house. Correction, ex-boyfriend. The word pained her to say or even think and that was what it took for her to faint behind the closed door.

The young man sat in the car, not believing what just happened. He had lost the girl he loved in an instant and now didn't know what to do. He broke into a painful cry and smashed his head against the steering wheel of the car. He screamed and pounded his head even more. He didn't want to go home. He didn't want to give his mom that pleasure of satisfaction. He now knew the great pain that his girlfriend had felt all those years ago where he didn't do anything about it. He now knew the pain she felt and it only made him feel worse because she was always there for him whenever he was in pain, and now she wouldn't be there to console him and he wouldn't be there to console her.

He felt so much pain and cried in agony for at least an hour before he decided to drive back home. He drove more so by instinct because he didn't know when he got home. He aimlessly walked out of the car and through the door, placing the keys on the table and sitting down, burying his head into his hands. He didn't bother looking at who was in the room, the only thing he wanted was to be alone in his own room at his dad's house, but he hadn't come to pick him up yet.

"Hi honey." His mother came up walking to him and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Honey I'm talking to you."

"Get away from me. I want to be alone."

"Well that certainly isn't any reason to talk to me that way. You should be grateful."

"I said I want to be alone!" He yelled now angered.

"Fine. Anyways just if you haven't noticed your father is here to take you home."

"Great. I don't want to be in this house anymore, anyways."

His father took him to his house without saying a word. The young man ran to his room and locked the door. He broke down in tears on his bed and turned off his phone. He cried for hours until his father knocked on the door to tell him to come and eat. He didn't want to eat anything, but went out anyways. He locked himself in his room again and laid on his bed feeling completely empty. He turned his phone on again only to receive a text from his mother. It pained him seeing her message but something in him wanted to do what she asked. He opened his messages and texted his girlfriend, well now ex-girlfriend.

I hope you're okay. I love you...

He couldn't bring himself to do it, but it was what his mom asked for. He clicked the button that said block and blocked her number. He cried more after the realisation kicked in and decided to look through the few pictures they had together. He now wished he had taken more pictures with her. She always begged him to take pictures with her or even let her take some of himself. He scrolled through his liked images on gallery. He had all the pictures of her on there. She looked so happy and perfect. The last picture he had of her was when she fell asleep after he took her out on a date on her birthday. That was at least 3 months ago, but at least she looked happy and peaceful.

He sighed and walked over to his gaming console. Gaming always distracted him from everything in the world and he put his headphones on. He turned on the television set and played the game. He heard his friend's voice through his headphones and immediately felt more at ease.

"Hey bro."
