Kai searched for her through the foggy ice. Flakes of snow floated down from the grey sky. He found her floating in the middle. He ran over to her.

He could see Shai had been trying to break the ice, but it was too thick.

Kai growled in frustration as he watched her eyes slowly close; he could feel her heartbeats slowing. He rattled his brain trying to think of a way to save her.

Then, like a freezing winter wind, an idea hit him.

He clenched his fist. He summoned a power deep within himself, causing his fist to turn green. With a loud yell, he punched his hand through the ice. It shattered like glass, echoing through the dark water.

Kai grabbed Shai and pulled her out. She was drenched. Her body was chilled to the bone from the freezing water.

He quickly carried her to the snowy bank. He knelt down, her body limp I'm his arms.

"Shai. Wake up," he said.

Her heart was almost at a standstill.

Kai looked from her, to his hand, then back again. He placed a it over her heart. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes as his Chi built up inside. Instead of his hand glowing green, it glowed bright yellow.

The light slowly dimmed as he opened his eyes. He put his hand on the side of her face.

"Please, Shai," he whispered softly, "Wake up."

After a few moments, Kai's heart sank into the depths of hopelessness and sadness.

Suddenly, Shai gasped as her eyes shot open. She rolled onto her side, coughing up icy water.
She breathed heavily and turned back to him. She smiled, placing a hand on his face.

"Thank you, Kai," she whispered.

Kai smiled back and placed his forehead on hers.

Shai's frozen body shook violently. She gave a small, shaky laugh.

"Snow Leopards aren't supposed to get cold," she said, "But I'm freezing right about now."

Kai laughed a little as he stood. He carried Shai to a small clearing; it reminded him of when he had carried Oogway - his old friend - to the Panda Village.

Kai gently set her down and gathered some firewood. He lit the fire close to Shai. She crawled over to it, and practically laid on top of the flames.

"Are you still cold," Kai asked as he sat beside her.

Shai nodded, "I can't even feel the heat of the fire."

Kai picked her up as he laid in her spot. He placed her on his chest.

"I thought I had lost you," he said.

Shai snuggled into him, a smile on her face. "Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere."

Shai was about to fall asleep when her shaky voice blurted out a question.
"What's your reason?"

He looked at her, a tad confused.

She gazed into Kai's green-blue eyes, "What's your reason for taking everyone's Chi?"

Kai was about to respond... but he stopped. He thought he knew, but now that Shai asked, he wasn't so sure.

"I can sense the light in you, Kai," Shai said tiredly, "Please don't let the darkness take you."

Her red-yellow eyes closed. Her body slowly stopped shaking as she fell into a peaceful sleep.

Shai's eyes fluttered open. The snow glittered in the sunlight. She felt the cold beneath her. Her brows furrowed in confusion. She shot up, snow flying everywhere.

Something weighed down around her neck. She looked down. The jade pendant of Tai Lung hung around her neck.

Tears welled up in her eyes. She placed a hand around the pendant.

She glanced down at the snow. Kai's tracks lead to the north. Determination filled her. She got down on all-fours. Her ears flattened against her head as she sprinted in the direction of Kai's tracks.
