After the Dragon Warrior had been taken to the Hall of Heroes, Shai went to the Training Hall. A sinking feeling tore at her heart and soul, and there was only one explanation: Tai Lung had escaped.
Trying to get her mind off it, she was cleaning the weapons in the Hall. Suddenly, the door burst open to reveal the Furious Five; their expressions a mask of fury. Shai placed the now gleaming sword back in its place, turning to face them.
When they saw her, they quickly bowed in respect; fist against palm, head faced towards the ground.
"We are sorry to disturb you, Master Shai," Monkey apologized. "And we are sorry that we failed you," Crane continued. Shai chuckled and the group looked up at her, confusion written all over their furry, scaly or feathery faces. "You failed no one," she said, walking over to them. "And no one has failed you. It was the universe's choice, so don't go and blame Master Oogway, either."
"But-..."
Shai held up a hand, stopping Tigress, "You will show the Dragon Warrior that he is welcome here, for it is him the universe chose. Although you may not see it, or believe it, he is the Dragon Warrior for a reason." Shai's red-yellow orbs scanned over them. "Now. How about you do some training to think on that,"
she stated, though it sounded like a question.
Mantis groaned, "Do we have to?"
"Yes," Shai responded, "You do now."-----
The Five were half way through their training, under the tutorage of Shai. She had been a Kung Fu master since she was 15, just like her brother, just like other masters. Although she was 35yrs old, she still had a lot to learn. Shifu was around 60yrs, and he had just as much to learn as she had.
The doors to the Hall opened. The Five stayed focused, whereas Shai looked over. Master Shifu walked in, a panda walking in after him. He wore no shirt, but did wear tan coloured pants. "Whoa~!" He breathed, his mouth hanging open at the sight of the Five training. Shai let out a laugh, causing both Shifu and the panda to turn their heads to her.
"You might want to close your mouth in case Mantis misses his target and flies in there," she remarked. Shifu sighed and shook his head as the pair made their way over. Shai once again focused on the Five, drowning out Shifu and the panda's conversation, until she heard the panda say, "How about we start at level zero."
"Come on now," Shifu started, "There is no such thing as 'level zero'."
The panda's green eyes widened in awe when he saw Shai. "You're," he gestured at her, Shai turned to face them once again. The panda was about her height, towering over Master Shifu's small figure. "You're Master Shai Lung! I've heard how awesome you were in the Battle of the Whispering Mountain - how you lead the Five to a great victory, and how you came back unscathed! It was so... awesome!"
"So," Shai began, "You must be the Dragon Warrior." Shifu glared at her, the panda glanced between the two. Shai put her fist to her palm and bowed her head, "It is an honor to meet you..." She trailed off, encouraging him to tell her his name.
"Oh, uh... Po."
Shai straightened as Shifu cleared his throat. "Shall we start your training?"
Po glanced around nervously, then something caught his eye. "How about that?" He pointed to a small dummy near the wall.
"That," Shifu asked. "We use that for training children, and propping the door open when it's hot."
"Well, we've got to start somewhere," Shai stated.
Shifu let out and exasperated groan, the Furious Five gathering beside Shai.
"Whoa-ho-ho!" Po said, "You guys are so much bigger than your action figures!" He then looked at Mantis. "Well, maybe except you, Mantis. You're about the same."
Mantis twitched his antenna in annoyance, the others having their pokerfaces on. Shai quietly laughed to herself.
"Go ahead, panda," Shifu instructed. "Hit it."
Po looked a little taken aback, "What? Right now? Are they going to stand there and watch, or do I wait till they get back to work or something?"
"Hit it." Shifu repeated.
"Oh, uh, I just ate, so," Po began, "My Kung Fu might not be as good as later on..."
To Shai, it looked like Shifu was about to explode.
"Hit it."
Po then nodded and began prancing around it, trying to pshyc himself up. He was nervous, he was in front of the Furious Five - his heroes - Master Shifu, and Shai Lung.
"Just. Hit. It." Shifu said forcefully.
"Okay," Po said, mainly to himself. He lightly hit it, making it wobble.
Shifu sighed, "How about you try again. A little harder this time."
Po then punched it with all his might, sending it backwards. "Ha, ha! How was-..."
Po was cut off by the dummy flying back and hitting him off, sending him flying into the Arena. "This won't end well," Shai thought.
Po landed on the first part of the Training Arena - five rows of spinning logs, shaped into thick, round, curving balance beams; chunks of wood with metal spikes swinging over head on chains. One of the swinging wood pieces hit him in the face, sending him flying again. He fell into the Jade Bowl, an instrument used for the Masters to maintain balance and control whilst fighting. After being smacked around in the Bowl for a bit, Po flung out and into another part - the Spinning Totems of Death. The metal-spiked arms - top to bottom - spun around wildly, slapping Po in the face. He kept stumbling through them, until one of the lower limbs punched him right in the...
Po groaned in pain, putting his hands over his crown jewels, "Oh, my tenders!" All the boys, and Shai, grimaced. Holding his breath, not thinking, trying to rid of the pain, he placed a large hand on one of the arms; Shai sighed and face-palmed. The spinning and yelps of pain started up once again. Po then staggered onto a metal floor, small holes covering its surface. A deep rumbling sound came from the floor, causing Po to look down in curiosity. The others cringed everytime a blast of fire hit him.
Po dragged himself over to them and looked up at Shifu; most of his fur was charred and the horrid smell of burning hairs filled the air, the tip of his ear burning a bright orange. "How'd I do," Po asked breathlessly.
"There is now," Shifu began, gently pinching Po's ear to kill the hot ember on it. "A level zero," he continued.
