"What are you doing?" Tikki asked placing a steaming cup of hot chocolate beside me.
I was propped up against my table looking, more like staring at the corkboard with all the evidence I had found.
"Nothing... No leads... Just... Nothing!" I sighed.
I was getting anxious by the second. I knew that every person made mistakes but it looked like these criminals rarely made one. They seemed to cover up everything making sure they remained in the dark. I could be wrong but I knew for a fact that 'covering up everything' included murders.
I picked up my cup of hot chocolate and gazed intensely at the photo of Mr Damocles in his owl suit. I moved closer to the corkboard hoping to spot something in the background that would give me a clue as to where they were heading to.
I almost spat the hot chocolate I had sipped when I saw something.
"Rude!" Tikki cried as I wiped the hot chocolate off my chin.
I quickly snapped a picture of the photo on the corkboard on my phone and enlarged the image. The image was too blurred that I couldn't identify the logo that was at the very edge of Dark Owl's mask. I uploaded the photo into my computer and deleted the one on my phone.
I opened the photo and got to work. Tikki stood behind my computer chair while I was bent over the keyboard editing the photo.
"Done!" I exclaimed leaning back and examining the photo.
"What do you think this is?" Tikki asked.
"Probably their logo. As in their group or company logo," I said knowing that it was true.
Tikki nodded and waited till I printed the logo and attached it onto my corkboard. I cut a piece of red string and pinned one end at the edge of Dark Owl's mask while the other end was pinned on the logo.
I was planning on going for a walk in the park when I remembered the data I had extracted from Miss Mendeleiev's phone.
"Tikki! I got something interesting to show you. Spots on!" I said letting the spy suit expand from my earrings and cover my body.
I opened the folder the data was stored and uploaded it into my computer. I skipped straight to her photos and scrolled past the photos of her smiling in front of the Eiffel tower. Upon finding nothing helpful, I opened her messages.
Nothing!
There was nothing except messages to and from someone named Beatrice.
"What's for dinner...? I'm home... Really? WHAT IS THIS?!"
I shouted and threw my hands in the air. Beatrice was clearly Miss Mendeleiev's mother. What else could it be? Coded messages asking, 'what's the plan for tonight?'?
"Ugh!" I cried pulling my hair.
"Didn't you think that if she's a member of that criminal gang, she does all her unauthorised activity on a separate phone? Kind of like us?" Tikki asked folding her arms across her chest.
