Y/n's POV

I hate potions, maybe it's because I am terrible at it, or because it is so incredibly boring, or maybe because professor Snape is the most insufferable, boring teacher I've ever had. Whatever it is it has led to me currently failing potions class. Today's class was even worse than normal because we had to actually brew the potion we had been listening to Snape drone on about for the past two classes. To make matters worse this is the potion we are gonna have to brew for our finals at the end of the semester. I mean hey it's not my fault Snape's voice makes me basically blackout the entire class. I walked into class and plopped down in my seat ready to fail. As the other students filed in I waited for Oliver so we could be partners. I saw him walking in with Percy whose arms were piled with books. He saw me and smiled sitting at the desk next to me with Percy on his other side.

"Oi Y/l/n  ready to blow up," Oliver said knowing how terrible I am in this class. I had asked him for help on homework multiple times, not like he was any help though he just gets his answers from Percy.

"I'll make sure my cauldron is extra close to you Wood" I responded.

"That was a terrible comeback" He retorted right as Snape entered the room,

"Students, please open your potions books to page 164" His monotone voice echoing through the dark room.

"This is the potion you will be attempting to recreate today and will be included in your final exam." I am so going to fail this class I thought to myself. I looked over to see Oliver doodling on his textbook and Percy taking notes in one of the many pieces of parchment he kept in his stack of things. I swear he is such a nerd, what is he even taking notes on, how incredibly boring this class is?

"I will be assigning partners to work on their potions together" Snape drawled on making some of the students groan before receiving a glare from Snape and shutting up. Snape began to point to students and assign them together the pairs then beginning to set up their cauldrons. He assigned Oliver to some Hufflepuff girl in the row behind us.

"Y/l/n and Weasley" I heard snape's voice say. I got out of my seat and moved over to where Oliver was sitting next to Percy who was still taking notes for some reason.

"Hello?" I said trying to get Percy's attention, he looked up from what he was writing, nodded at me, and went back to taking notes. I decided to start setting up the cauldron. Maybe now I have a chance of not totally failing.

Percy's POV

I sat in my seat quietly taking notes on everything snape said. You may think I am a nerd or suck up but I'm not taking notes for me. I understand potions perfectly but I know Oliver doesn't pay attention and Y/n copies his homework. I know if I didn't help a little they would both completely fail, although Y/n is a little beyond me being able to help her. Professor Snape began to assign partners and I looked up as he said my name.

"Y/l/n and Weasley '' I let out a small sigh realizing Oliver had already been assigned a partner, I placed my notes gently with the rest of my books and looked over the potion we were supposed to be brewing. We were making a potion to get rid of boils, it was pretty simple. I started copying down the steps in the textbook when a voice pulled me out of focus. I looked over to y/n who was setting up her cauldron. I have no idea what she said so I just nodded and went back to copying the recipe from the textbook.

"Ok," I said standing up and something out the parchment I had just written all my notes on,

"I'll get the ingredients I assume you got that handled?" I asked, looking at her setting up the cauldron. She responded with a thumbs up so I took that as a yes and went to get the ingredients we needed.

"Ok, here I rewrote the instructions in the textbook so it should be easier for you to understand," I said handing her the paper as I set the ingredients on the table. She rolled her eyes but took the paper anyway. If she thinks I am doing all the work then she's dumber than I thought.

Y/n's POV

This dude I swear. He rewrote the instructions, how extra can you be. He obviously thinks I am stupid, which granted he isn't wrong but he doesn't need to know that. I took the paper he handed me, rolling my eyes so he would understand my annoyance. I started adding the ingredients based on his instructions, turning up the heat accordingly following all his obnoxiously thorough directions. When I got halfway through to see if he wanted to help but He was watching me over my shoulder making sure I did everything right. If I had a better grade in this class I would purposely mess up to irk him.

"It's not supposed to be that color," Percy said from behind me

"Well maybe if you helped me instead of staring over my shoulder it would be right!" I spat back.

"Were you following my instructions?"

"Yes Professor," I said mockingly, rolling my eyes again.

"Let me see '' He said, reaching over me to grab his parchment, in the process he knocked my arm, making me spill in 2 extra porcupine quills then I was supposed to, turning the potion from a light blue to a dark green.

"Well now look what you did" I snapped at him,

"It'll be fine just stir it slowly 5 times clockwise and it should be finished"

I listened slowly, stirring the potion until it started to turn the right color, a lavender.

"You actually did ok y/l/n" I heard Percy say once again looking over my shoulder. I scoffed

"Thank you, Weasley"

"Y/n pay attention!" He said turning me back to the potion that I had now stirred a couple of times too many, making it turn bright red.

"What's happening?" I asked Percy who was gathering up his books frantically,

"You're gonna want to get down," He said, looking at me with a mix of anger and fear.

"Percy what??" I asked frantically right as our potion and exploded all over me, the desk, and the floor. The noise caused Snape to turn around looking right at me and Percy, who had not ducked in time and was also covered in red goo.

"y/l/n and Weasley, Detention for both of you and 10 points from Gryffindor" His monotone voice commanded. Oliver was behind us trying to hold in his laughter and Percy looked like he was about to pass out, I have never seen someone's face so red in my life. Detention with this nerd is gonna suck.

A/N: I promise it will get more interesting soon lol. anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter, remember to drink some water and try to eat something today. Thank you for 160 reads - Nora <3
