Background information
Some humans are born with the power to wield one of the nine elements. They are therefore called elementals. Only an elemental can exorcise/ kill a spirit, as the power they have was stolen from the spirits at the dawn of time.
The spirits know this, and therefore are driven to kill them.
For every spirit an elemental kills, they grow in power. And the same applies to spirits. For every elemental they kill, they grow in power. Therefore, spirits and elementals are ranked in a tier system based on their strength/kill count.
Humans have forgotten the existence of spirits and so elementals stay hidden. There is an academy which trains them in secret which will become a key part of this book.
Both spirits and elementals have one of the nine elements. The spirits/elementals with the rarer elements are typically the strongest.
The nine elements:
WATER most common element
NATURE
AIR
ROCK
FIRE
LIGHTNING
ICE
DARK
LIGHT least common element
A person can only be born an elemental due to their ancestry. To inherit a power, the person must have a relative (no matter how distant or close) who was able to wield the same power. Therefore, having an elemental power is largely due to inheritance and chance.
Of course, you are highly likely to be an elemental if both parents are--- as opposed to the slim chance of you being an elemental if one of your ancestors was thousands of years ago.
Okay--- information overload done.
Apologies (sorry not sorry) that the first chapter is quite long. The rest of the chapters won't be like that, and the story picks up in chapter two.
