The truth

I walked with aunt Ginny to the baggage claim. I picked up my suitcases, and she helped me drag them outside. We chatted all the way, talking about family and stuff. Apparently, she has three kids, and one would be in my class. I was relieved that I would know SOMEONE there.

She drove me to her house in a blue BMW, and yelled,"James! Come out here and help our guest bring in her bags!" A tall, shaggy haired boy who looked about fourteen or fifteen ran out. "What, mom? Oh, hi, um..." "Bailey." I said. "Yeah, hi bailey." We pulled my stuff inside. James dropped something from his pocket. I picked it up. It was a long, intricately carved polished wooden rod, maybe eleven inches long. "Hey, James! You dropped your, uh..." He turned and saw what she was holding. "Oh, my wand, thanks!" "Eh, you're welcome." I replied. Wand? Oh, part of that 'wizard' joke. Haha.

When I stepped in, my necklace that was still clenched tightly in my hand started tickling. I giggled, then realized it was getting bigger at an alarming rate. I dropped it, and just before it hit the floor it changed... Into a real snowy owl. My jaw dropped.

"Whoa, cool!" James marveled, holding his arm out for the owl to land on. "How do you already know how to transfigure owls? Transfiguration is my worst class!"

I was speechless... Until I remembered that paper that said 'headmistress: Minerva McGonagall ( also transfiguration teacher)

Transfiguration...

"Oh god, it was the truth..." I whispered. The note was true, which meant..."I'M A WITCH!" I whisper- yelled. "Well, duh," James said,"you wouldn't be going to hogwarts, or have an owl if you weren't!"

Just then, a little girl with hair to rival Ginny's came running by, being chased by a boy who looked about my age with dark hair and bright green eyes. The little girl was squealing,"Mum! Albus is chasing me! Daddy! Help!" She started laughing: the boy, apparently named Albus had caught up to her and was tickling her. Aunt Ginny separated the two. "Albus Severus Potter, why were you tickling your sister?"

"She was in my room, and you would get mad at me if I hexed her! What else did you want me to do?" "Say sorry to Lily, now." Albus sighed. "Sorry, Lily."

While they were talking, Bailey looked around. James was sitting on a big, fluffy beige sofa, absentmindedly stroking a big, cream- colored, fluffy dog. Bookshelves lined the walls, which were the same green as the writing on my envelope. The floors were wooden, and there were a few colorful rugs laying down. A long, twisty staircase led upstairs. There were two doorways still on the first floor, one to my right and one to my left. My owl had been flapping around, but now it was perched on my shoulder. I didn't mind: it was kinda cute. I named her Wiggy.

A man with hair and eyes like Albus's came walking downstairs. When he noticed me, he walked up to introduce himself. "Hi there, you must be Bailey?" I nodded. "Well, bailey, welcome. I'm mr. Potter, but I suppose your mum would want you to call me uncle harry. Feel free to chose whichever name. Lily, would you please show our guest to our guest room?" Little Lily nodded. I carried my bags upstairs.

I followed Lily past a few doors as we moved up the staircase. She was humming, while I was guessing her age. Probably about nine. We stopped at a dark room, where the outline of a bed was visible.

Lily stepped in and said,"Lumos." The light flashed on in the room, but it still looked drab. The walls and carpeting were grey. Lily said,"You can change it, you know. The floors and walls." She walked up to a wall touched it, and closed her eyes. Almost immediately, it turned pale blue. "Whoa, thanks, Lily!" I said to her. She blushed. "Do you want me to help you unpack?" She asked sweetly. "No, thank you very much. With a small smile, she dashed out of the room.

I sighed and started putting my folded clothes into a drawer. I changed the floor to a frosty white with green polka-dots (cooool), but I left the walls blue. I liked them that way.

It turned out that my bed sheets could also change, but it depended on what mood I was in. Right now, they were pale lavender. I guess that meant shy?

Pretty soon, aunt Ginny called,"lunch time!" I followed the sound of footsteps back downstairs and into the door to my left. Everyone was sitting down at a long, oval-shaped table. Sunlight filtered through the windows, making the room look friendly. I shyly took a seat in between aunt Ginny and Lily. All of the boys, including uncle Harry, were discussing magical gag gifts. I had been so excited playing with my walls that I had forgotten about what probably made them change.

Magic.

So magic is real, judging by the way aunt Ginny passed out plates with the wave of a wand. I'm glad I was sitting, because if I wasn't, I probably would have fainted.

My dad had said he wasn't one on the phone... So my mum is a witch, but my dad isn't a wizard.

I'm a half-blood?

Cool.

Ginny tried to start a co conversation. "So, Bailey, how is your mum?"

"Oh, she's fine, she's always traveling. I think she's in Europe on a business trip..." "You talk funny," Lily interrupted,"why?" "Well, Lily, I'm not from England, I flew here from the United States." "You have your own broomstick?" Lily asked, her eyes wide. "No, flower," Ginny told Lily,"she came here with muggle transportation." "Oh..."Lily said, looking a bit disappointed."Okay."

After I ate, I went to play with their dog. We tugged on a rope for a while, but then we both got bored. I took a book from one of the shelves and started to read it. I didn't really understand it, so I sighed and put it back on the shelf before walking to my room.

I opened my window and looked at the sky for a minute before I noticed a brown shape speeding towards me. I darted out of the way as two barn owls came in, a package tied between them. They kept looking from me to the package, so I assumed it was for me.

I carefully untied the owls, who hooted and flew out the window.

I tore open the package to find a birdcage and a note. I opened the cage, and my owl flew down from her hiding spot on top of the dresser and straight into it. She hooted happily. The note read:

Dear bailey,

I believe that by now you have your owl. Take good care of her. You don't need to feed her, just let her out every day so she can hunt for her food. Fill up her little bowl with cool water. Happy almost birthday.

As I believe you have read your letter, no it's not a joke from your father, even though that sounds like something he would do. Anyway, in the wizarding world, we don't need mailmen, we have owls. Simply tie your letter to their leg and tell them who it's for, she'll find them.

Lots of love,

Your mom

I put the letter back in its envelope and sighed. I let Wiggy out the window and filled her bowl with water.

Mail by owl...

Just then, Albus appeared in the doorway. "Hey, Bailey, we're going to diagon ally. You want to come?"
