(Listen to the song above while reading to get full effect😉)
I get to the Cavern Club five minutes before show time. I walk to the back of the stage and there is a band playing. I walk over to the curtain and see who is playing tonight. I give out a yelp when I see him. It's the boy I'd ran into earlier. His black hair was shimmering in the stage light. The Cavern has a very small stage. If some walked on an old plank in the right place they would fall right in. He was a bass player as well. I smile at the thought. We make eye contact for a millisecond and I hide behind the curtain. I feel my face redden as I stagger away from the stage.
I accidentally knock into my friend, the lead singer in our band, Shereen. "Bri? Hey." She waves her hand in front of my face. "I- I'm sorry. I was drifting into space." I laugh nervously. She gives me a reluctant look at first and then a smile appears. Shereen has the best smile. She could be a model, but lasses from Liverpool almost never become models. Lele, our ambitious drummer, sits impatiently in a wee, ragged, fold-up chair. "Can these bloody imps get off the damn stage already?" she hisses, "I'm ready to rock this place out." Lele jumps out of her seat and waits even more impatient by the curtain.
Minty, my best friend, tunes up her Rickenbacker guitar. She gives me a sly smile and whispers, "You like that boy out there don't you?" How does she know this shit. She reads my mind all the damn time. "I-well-um." I stutter as I start to blush. "Say no more my lover." She jumps up with a mischievous look on her face. "I'll talk to him for you. I'll tell him to introduce himself to you." I chuckle. "No need to Minty love, it's alright. I can talk to him on my own. Besides how would Roger feel if you were talking to a guy you don't even know." I say panicked. She nods her head and sits back down. I kneel down beside her and open my bass case.
My brand new, stunning bass guitar sits in its case like a trophy. I was forced to play bass because no one else wanted to. I think it was for the best now. I love my new bass guitar. I strum the strings and when it resonates it brings me great satisfaction. I strum an A chord, then a D chord, then an F chord. It makes the most beautiful, deep, meaningful noise I have ever heard. I grab my guitar, close the case, and wait by the curtain, with the rest of the band, for our que to go on stage.
